This isn't news it's a commercial for Westwood which has been around and made fun of for years.

"I wish I could be as cool as pink shirt guy"

I laugh everytime I see that CM... It's like every fanboy's wet dream. They're going to be so cool playing the game while working talking about tweaking the graphics and then this random chick comes over and says she needs another game designed and they feel sooooo important like "We rock! After we tighten up these graphics, we're going to go make another game and we're gonna spend all night playing it! Score!"

Man, as much as I would like to work in the game industry, I'm totally not that naive about what it's all about...

The show this commercial about once every 5 minutes on G4. Not that I watch G4. Which I totally don't. Seriously.

I love this commercial. It's been around a while, but it's hilarious! I mean, one would REALLY have to be naive about the way the gaming industry works to really believe the dialog.

"There's another game I need Designed"???? She says it like its homework! Being that they are holding playstation controllers, it would take more than just the two guy to make a game from scratch. Heck, bejeweled took more than two people.

It's hilarious that they have the nerve to show this commercial on G4! Its so insulting, even XPlay has made jabs at it.

I had my heart set on getting a career in video games, and then I found out they won't let texans join.

Well, I had to go get a real job instead.

Our QA testers don't have it too bad, granted the hours can be long but they get all the free snacks they want, pop is only a quarter, and we are not very corporate. If they get stir crazy we have full size arcade games, pinball, foosball, etc. You'll never see anybody walking around wearing a tie unless they are here for an interview. One guy used to wear bear slippers every day. :)

I think we would laugh out most people who came in with a degree from a company like this. Kinda like those horrific "Graphic Design/Multimedia" commercials that look like they were created by color blind monkeys using 3D programs from 1992.

The thing that cracks me up the most is they make it sound like they are tightening up the graphics right there with the controller. Hmmm, I thought most games were created using PC's? Maybe that's why it takes so long to develop games, they only have 11 buttons to work with.

I remember this commercial from last year on G4. They changed it after a while, I guess some poeple voiced their concerns that it was quite unrealistic with its whole "tightening the graphics" comment, and the commercial was later changed (With a shot from behind the lady) to say something like "how are the graphics coming?"

Either way, I always thought it was a stupid commercial. Riiight, need another game designed.

I love the idea of "tightening up graphics". I'm a graphic design by profession and I don't even know what that means. Is there some "Tighten" filter in Photoshop?

They don't even explain what needs to be "tightened" up. Are the textures not aligned correctly? Clipping issues? They just imply that something is wrong with the game visually, but keep it a secret and the lady thinks that is fine.

SILLY

Its EA!

These are school are bed enough...and what sucks even more is that when there are people who graduate from them, they use them to help sell the school.

I graduated from an Art Institute in Southern California and just about everything I learned was from either friends who helped me out and teacher who worked in the industry. Most of the teacher at all these school are complete jokes and the administrators are lying sacks of shit (pardon my language.)

The friends I made at that school that moved to work at some well known studios (Midway, Rainbow Studios, Shiny, Blizzard, etc.) all got there b/c most of the stuff they learned they either knew already, learned from friends or from the internet.

#33 - i'm in the same boat as you were fella, only it's with the art institute of toronto. we have like 3 teachers that are industry pros that we can go to for questions, and all the other teachers are absolute retards; most with no knowledge of what they're teaching - like they're reading out of the book to us and i get a sense that they're learning this all for the first time. the administration is full of fucking slimey crooks. makes me sick - but i only got a few months left. this had better be worth it in the end...

If you are in the Game Design program, I wouldn't put too much weight behind it. When it comes to getting a job at a game developer, your skills will help you more then a degree. Just make sure your skills are up to par otherwise you'll be using your time to improve them.
