Halo theme could join Guitar Hero II set list
According to the March issue of OXM, Steve Vai's guitar-charged "Halo Theme (Mjolnir Mix)" could be a downloadable track for Guitar Hero II. Heck, if Spartan-458 can jiggle in Dead or Alive 4, then Halo 2's theme can be strummed along to in the GHII encore. This is one Halo rumor that smells probable; if not simply because it screams, "impulse buy!"Assuming we'd have to pay to play, the Halo theme has the potential to pocket as many micropayments as just about any licensed track imaginable. This is the Xbox 360 venue, folks, where Master Chief is as big as any 'Rock God' -- dead or alive.
And it could go a little something like this...

This is magic and epic and amazing.
Hello @ Feb 26th 2007 7:49PM
This would make me buy the game.
FOX @ Feb 26th 2007 7:50PM
That would be pretty cool.
Rubang B @ Feb 26th 2007 7:51PM
Hmmm.... I wonder if this means the Wii version might get a Super Mario Bros. theme in there somewhere...
Guitar Hero is taking over the world and I love it. Rhythm games and gimmick controllers UNITE!

Here's to Nintendo songs on GHWii

Guitar Hero - good
Halo 2 theme - bad
Good day.
Brett @ Feb 26th 2007 8:03PM
Abysmal recording. Am I the only one who hates it? Sorry Stevie, but I just can't dig. Loved Halo, spent a decade with my guitar, but I always thought the remix sounded dry, empty, and uninspired. I sort of liked the OG, though.

vidGuy - should jump in a fire
Good day.

That didn't take long.
I said good day. ;)
Lord Chako @ Feb 26th 2007 8:06PM
I don't fucking think so.
Maybe for sellouts, and children who don't know what good music is.
arch @ Feb 26th 2007 8:10PM
well thats "fucking" interesting lord chako, since marty'o composed it. you know th one who won about a dozen awards if not more for the music so far? you may not liek this song, but the rest are masterpieces by anyone who knows "real music" or knows what classical is.
LockeCole @ Feb 26th 2007 8:35PM
I predicted this a few weeks back, at like 4AM. I've been so busy of course, that I didn't get time to make a rumor of it. People will think I'm making this up, but I'll have the gratification that I predicted this :-D

The Halo 2 theme would translate beautifully into a GH2 track: the notes are closely grouped in each section, the guitar IS the primary instruments, and the proper remix of the song could have some compelling solos and/or rifts.
My favorite "mix" of the Halo theme is played in the final two minutes of the escape sequence from the Pillar of Autumn. I enjoy Marty's music as much as any bloke and would love to pretend I could actually play it via GH2.
unlucky 360 user @ Feb 26th 2007 9:28PM
if only my 360 worked...
Ironhide @ Feb 26th 2007 9:28PM
It's so sad that people can be so ignorant about good music. Lord Chako, I'm assuming you actually don't listen to music of any kind thereby rendering such a assinine comment as plausable. What you are uttering is an opinion. Awards speak for themselves, and trump any so called 'opinion' that you express.
Randavance @ Feb 26th 2007 9:55PM
Do you ever wonder if there is someone who works for Joystick who gets paid to photo shop guitars into Master chiefs arms?
Lord Chako @ Feb 26th 2007 9:32PM
Arch,
Am I supposed to be impressed?
Lord Chako @ Feb 26th 2007 9:50PM
Blow it out your ass Ironhide.
So does that mean the only good games are ones that win awards?
Are the only good movies are the ones that win awards?
I really don't see how just because something won some bullshit award, it invalidates everyone else's opinion.
By your logic, Brokeback Mountain was the best movie of 2005, and noone is allowed to believe otherwise?
I didn't realize music awards was the determination of what is considered good.
So everything I like can't be considered good, because it hasn't won any awards? This is news to me,
Do you always let other people decide what you like? Or are you capable of forming your own opinion?
aegies @ Feb 26th 2007 10:32PM
Whether you like the song or not, I have to admit that it's a fairly good business decision. People who have held out this long for the game are pretty likely to be fans of the 360, and, well, fans of the 360 are pretty likely to be fans of the Halo franchise, aren't they? And you can bet your sweet ass that there will be at least one Nintendo franchise theme in the Wii version of GH. My money would be on the main Zelda theme though, as opposed to anything having to do with Mario, although I suppose a Metroid piece could work too.

Rubang B @ Feb 26th 2007 11:11PM
Hey Lord Chako, you're right that Ironhide doesn't know what he's talking about. But Brokeback Mountain didn't win Best Picture. That went to Crash. Brokeback Mountain got Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.
arch @ Feb 26th 2007 11:11PM
nobody needs to impres oyu lord chko. nobody has the time or care. were just awaiting for the song on GH2.
Hello @ Feb 26th 2007 11:13PM
Blow it out your ass Chako.
Bennyishere @ Feb 26th 2007 11:33PM
Lord Chako seems to mistake his own personal taste for a good one. Also, no one said music that doesn't win awards where bad. However, It should be fairly obvious to anyone above the age of 2 that if a song or a movie wins an award it means it's good! I don't know what you like, Lord Chako, but a hell of a lot of people loved Brokeback Mountain, and it was also an important movie because, well, it's got gay cowboys.
NeverSage @ Feb 27th 2007 12:57AM
Wow, these comments took a nasty turn quick.
And Brett, I have to agree, the OG is where it's at. Though, I'll most likely get this anyway.
Jorge C @ Feb 27th 2007 1:04AM
You've been able to do this in "frets on fire" for a while now. Not sure where i got the track from, but i must say it's pretty fun to play.
Goldspire @ Feb 27th 2007 1:36AM
"Is he killing that guitar, daddy?"
"yes, son.. yes, he is"
RobH @ Feb 27th 2007 9:02AM
Whats with all the hyper critical comments about a fan doing something pretty freakin cool. Its passion like this that drives the guy to make the NEXT cool soundtrack to a game.
Cut the guy some slack, I think its decent
KaneRobot @ Feb 27th 2007 9:06AM
"Abysmal recording. Am I the only one who hates it?"
I don't think it's necessarily an "abysmal recording," but the Halo 2 theme (meaning this one) is not as good as the original. That theme wasn't meant to have a "wailing guitar" over it, and it really sounds out of place.
RobH @ Feb 27th 2007 9:25AM
It sounds like he got the tab from Steve Vai's Recording. To hear it and compare, go to here:
http://www.gamesarefun.com/games/xbox/halo2/mjolnirmix.mp3
If you think Steve Vai is killing the guitar, you'd be right (but in a good way).
flamer's grill @ Feb 27th 2007 2:06PM
I am getting goosebumps just thinking about it. This would make me very happy.
