Rez, Ikaruga, Exit confirmed for Xbox Live Arcade
If you missed out on our liveblog of Microsoft's pre-TGS conference in Japan (it does, after all, require an excessive and strenuous amount of scrolling to access), you may appreciate and respond with delirious joy to some of the pertinent news to emerge from it. You should also appreciate the amount of effort that went into the preceding and vaguely professional sentence -- we really just wanted to blurt out that REZ ON XBLA YAY.
Ahem.
Microsoft confirmed that Tetsuya Mizuguchi's melodic shooter will soon make you hear everything you see and see everything you hear on Xbox Live Arcade. Other things you'll see are waves of hypnotic bullets (Ikaruga), saviors adorned with fine hats (EXIT), pulsating geometric shapes (Every Extend Extra Extreme), flying robots (Omega Five) and... er, some sort of Japanese car (Triggerheart Exelica)? No release dates have been announced for any of the games, though we suspect none of them are likely to come soon enough.

But will it support my(wife's) usb trance vibe, that's the real question.
colin @ Sep 12th 2007 6:48AM
damn, you beat me to it.
colin @ Sep 12th 2007 6:47AM
what about the orgasmic rez peripheral? if it was for the wii ... i could only imagine the sea of plastic released by 3rd parties.
ALH @ Sep 12th 2007 6:51AM
i was JUST talking about how cool it would be to have REZ on arcade the other day too, i can barely beleive its true now x_x
elmer @ Sep 12th 2007 7:18AM
And yet my wait for it on Wii STILL CONTINUES!! PLEASE Q PLEASE, listen to my PLEAS! In the meantime, where's my Katamari love Namco?
Lewis @ Sep 12th 2007 7:25AM
I never bothered playing these games. I will now.
nanomess @ Sep 12th 2007 7:36AM
This is fantastic news!!!
OnimushaSoki @ Sep 12th 2007 7:43AM
Nice announcement indeed, especially for the love-hate relationship I have with IKARUGA... oh, if I had only kept track how many times the GCN controllers were pitched across the room in frustration, LoL! Thankfully, it's the gaming-rare good kind of frustration that gets you enraged into finishing the game. To quote the earlier IKARUGA post in Feb'07 by 'sheppy':
I can just imagine the achievements though.
"Just ******* Beat It!" -200 points"
rockinrobbie @ Sep 12th 2007 8:39AM
And yes, the Achievements should be impressive
Foetoid @ Sep 12th 2007 8:47AM
This is fabulous. I always wanted to play Rez and i own Ikaruga on GC (which i play quite frequently on Wii). I'm glad other games will be able to experiance Ikaruga now since it didnt get a huge release.
Dave @ Sep 12th 2007 11:55AM
Sweet!! Two of my favorite games in glorious HD!! (Ikaruga and Rez). Now, how to turn my 47" LCD on its side for some vertical Ikaruga action...
t_m @ Sep 12th 2007 8:55AM
gah. just bought a ps2 to play these games (and ico & shadow of the colossus)
WiNG @ Sep 12th 2007 9:04AM
these are some of the best games in recent history. so buy them now!
Trev @ Sep 12th 2007 12:21PM
This is a huge score for the XBLA, in my opinion. I have half of those games already, but hot damn, as downloads that would rock.
That said, I'm not going to get a 360 to save the hastle of hooking up a Dreamcast to play Rez, but if I pick one up, these are definitely on the list of things to get.
Zaphod Beeblebrox @ Sep 12th 2007 5:08PM
Dreamcast? Rez came out on PS2.
Matt_M @ Sep 12th 2007 10:00AM
This is excellent, excellent news. Rez in HD is just about the best thing ever. I don't have a PSP but exit is one of those games I thought was excellent for it, and even though my Wii plays the GC version I'd be willing to give it another purchase if there's a significant upgrade.
Ross P. @ Sep 12th 2007 10:27AM
Perhaps since Ikaruga made it, there's hope that we'll get Radiant Silvergun! Please?
Slvrgun @ Sep 12th 2007 1:29PM
Please release Silvergun. I played a burned copy on Saturn and beat it. The last stage was incredible.
Azar @ Sep 12th 2007 10:55AM
Triggerheart Exelica is a pretty fun shmup itself. Certainly no Ikaruga, but better than most of the shooter offerings on XBLA right now.
Delta @ Sep 12th 2007 11:00AM
Ikaruga was brutally unforgiving. I don't think I even made it past the second stage on the GC version. A mission billion colored shots covering the screen and me screaming out in horror as I die horribly over and over.
I wish I was better because the game was beautiful
Gus @ Sep 12th 2007 11:21AM
The trance vibe is USB, of course... and the Xbox has USB, of course... they could totally make it work...
Edge @ Sep 12th 2007 11:21AM
I thought this would be a Japan release. Maybe I'm making assumptions...
Zaphod Beeblebrox @ Sep 12th 2007 11:24AM
Rez is an awesome game. A must for any shooter fan.
Zootittles @ Sep 12th 2007 1:31PM
This is awesome! Now if my Dreamcast kicks the bucket, I'll still be able to play Rez, Ikaruga, and Trigger Heart.
Bring all 3 to the US please!
mfed3 @ Sep 12th 2007 11:55AM
Those shooters announced at TGS will be for all regions and will be on the XBL Marketplace. Great news because they'll all have online coop, leaderboards, and cost $5. Noice.
Lunatone @ Sep 12th 2007 11:57AM
Oh shit. Oh god, when I saw his last night I died really really hard. Not only is E4 comming to 360 but Ikaruga and REZ. REZ!!!! My one of my absolute favorite games is finally getting a second chance and is going to completely flatten the masses with its absolutely seizure inducing awesome graphics and pump music. And if it gets the dolby treatment, then the whole world is gonna blow up... Due to the sheer awesomeness that is Rez.
hvnlysoldr (NDF - Wind Ring) @ Sep 12th 2007 11:58AM
When or if I get an Xbox 360 I'll be sure to buy Rez and Ikuraga. I hate bullet hells but my arcade instincts draw me back to them.
Mr Slavio @ Sep 12th 2007 12:36PM
Sweet! Proof that the Live Arcade team is listening.
Vagrant Pistol @ Sep 12th 2007 1:27PM
Ohhhhhh myyyyyyyy godddddddd. I think I just wet myself!!!
Kevin @ Sep 12th 2007 8:19PM
Fear is the mind killer. Even better in Dolby and HD.
Moofree @ Sep 12th 2007 2:04PM
Need more treasure games on XBLA.
Ikaruga is a good start, but XBLA NEEDS Guardian Heroes w/ online multiplayer.
Zootittles @ Sep 12th 2007 3:04PM
And Alien Soldier with leaderboards!
Shockgamer @ Sep 12th 2007 3:06PM
And the 360 further secures its title as THE hardcore machine.
Slvrgun @ Sep 12th 2007 4:08PM
Please release Silvergun. I played a burned copy on Saturn and beat it. The last stage was incredible.
Diskoboy @ Sep 12th 2007 4:13PM
As ususal - MS gives their fans what they want.
Gamers shout "Hey MS, how bout some Rez?", MS says "Here ya go! Like some Ikaruga with that?"
You say, "Yes please!"
:)
Nate @ Sep 12th 2007 4:33PM
Ikaruga is so beast...
KiraXD @ Sep 12th 2007 5:16PM
oh god yes. (have it for ps2 already, but.. i just wanna know if it will have HD'ier graphics, more stages/bonuses/music...)
KiraXD @ Sep 12th 2007 5:21PM
actually any true REZ fan would know that it came out on BOTH systems.
KiraXD @ Sep 12th 2007 5:23PM
^^ doh.. that was supposed to be reply to Zaphod
daniel tatlow @ Sep 13th 2007 4:50PM
I just bought REZ about 6 months ago at an EB for 40 dollars used. Seriously, I thought it was like the last time I would see it in person.
Christopher @ Sep 13th 2007 8:49PM
New prints of REZ for PS2 started appearing a year or two ago on ebay, so the price/rarity of the game is not as high as it used to be. Very happy to see the game on XBLA. Though I doubt they will add new stages, I would most certainly buy an Xbox360 just to play them. And maybe Halo 3 :)
