Battlestar Galactica escapes to PC and XBLA next week
Next week Battlestar Galactica, a "3D space shooter played on a 2D plane," makes its way onto PC and Xbox Live Arcade. Based on the popular television show, the game didn't really wow us when we played it back in July, but that's OK because it's meant as a felgercarb "mass appeal" cash-in on BSG fans who've been waiting forever for the final frakin' season to start in January. Thankfully the two-hour BSG special Razor premieres Nov. 24.
The Battlestar Galactica game has 10 single-player missions based on battles from the show. There is also a multiplayer component supporting eight players on XBLA and 16 on PC. Players can choose from four different types of ships on the Cylon or Human sides. The game will cost 800 MS points ($10) on XBLA and $20 on PC, available off XBLA on Oct. 24 and PCs Oct. 23. Now can we please get a real Battlestar Galactica game?

"fans who've been waiting forever for the final frakin' season to start in January."
No, more like waiting for the 3rd frakin' season to be released DVD! I just can't go 7 torturous days between episodes, so I refuse to watch BSG when it's actually on.
Hmm... I wonder if the game will capture any of the show's brilliant storytelling... I'm guessing not.

Man if it was $5 I would spent my last 400 points because I really like the show but man 800 points is too much.

A simple arcade shooter game (that might not even be a good arcade shooter) based on an engrossing, complex, and awesome show. What a waste of the licenese. I can garentee Beyond the Red Line will still be 20 times better, and it's a 3 level demo (of a free game!!!)

*Sigh* I hope something else gets released along with this, because just looking at the screen shots is fatiguing. It's great that XBLA is home to original content, however another game like "WC: Arena" will make me beg for a beat to death arcade classic like Pole Position and Moon Patrol.

Well, if this is next week's only release, it'll give me plenty of time to play good XBLA games like Puzle Quest, E4, and the new Lumines Live! content.
blooh (TIDF - Nipple Ring) @ Oct 19th 2007 2:16AM
ugh, lumines wasn't very good. i tried the demo of it today
i still have the demo of puzzle quest to try though
