New games this week: Guitar Hero III edition
What a nice change of pace. Normally, the game we feature in this weekly segment is something you won't be able to get your hands on until later in the week. But, thanks to its crazy Sunday release, you can go get Guitar Hero III right now. Come to think of it, you probably should ... unless you hate rocking. In non-console news, PC is having one of its best weeks in recent memory with the release of Hellgate: London. Whether you love rock 'n' roll or battling hell, it's a totally metal week. I bought the 360 version. I still don't have my Xbox... waiting fot the Elite with the two free games. (I sold my ringed (but fixed) 360 to a friend jeje.
I still have Bioshock, Halo 3, The Orange Box and Guitar Hero 3 i their boxes =(
F. Rocker or Fernando R.? @ Oct 29th 2007 10:30AM
Oh yeah... and I want Battalion Wars 2... sweet. Maybe the Simpsons game for my 360, altough it seems a little easy.
Manhunt 2 Wii: Yes.
gonk @ Oct 29th 2007 10:31AM
good collection there :)
i'm already 2/3 done with easy mode, then i'll go up to normal, then i'll try hard
i wish they would've just made the guitars 1 piece, then people wouldn't have the problems with buttons not working
FidliousWong @ Oct 29th 2007 10:35AM
Is it just me or does it seem a tad harder this time around? I mean, even when your buttons actually work.
NATO_Duke @ Oct 29th 2007 10:46AM
Does seem a bit harder this time around. We went through the coop of it last night to get a feel, and It felt a bit different to me. Of course, I have never been good at this series.
F. Rocker or Fernando R.? @ Oct 29th 2007 10:46AM
Timeshift? It should be Timeshit.
I hate stupid generics FPS in generics powersuits.
The best powersuit is the Samus suit.
ShortFuse @ Oct 29th 2007 10:59AM
The game is a LOT easier than Guitar Hero II. I'm up to the last song in Expert mode. It's really annoying since a lot of it is luck with little having to do with skill. (Battle Mode, throughs in Double Notes in the middle of a fast solo)
The hammer-ons and pull-offs are a lot easier but expert is still difficult because they've put more quick moving chords and fast strumming. Solo'ing is a lot easier and you can even spam the strum bar and wail on the frets and still get ~100% (yeah, even on the One solo). Where you would have likely failed on Expert in Jordan, you could probably pass it with this new system.
NATO_Duke @ Oct 29th 2007 11:07AM
Oh....ok. If you say so.
Bad Mojo @ Oct 29th 2007 10:29AM
Looks awesome...
Just need to decide which console to get it for :P
gonk @ Oct 29th 2007 10:32AM
360 if you've got it, for battles over live :)
F. Rocker or Fernando R.? @ Oct 29th 2007 10:34AM
Well... with the Wii version you get the better guitar (Bluetooth, rumble, and sounds from the Wii Remote) and with the PS3 and 360 version are identical, in HD, but you have achivements.
Me, as always, picked the 360 version. I use my 360 for all exlusives and multiplatforms games and my Wii for exclusives games (first and third party)
gonk @ Oct 29th 2007 10:36AM
that's what I would've done too, if i had a wii. Those speakers in the wiimote are pretty shitty and the rumble would be real distracting to me
and battlewars 2 is good, my friend tested it
baby sea tuna @ Oct 29th 2007 11:31AM
The hell would you want rumble in your guitar?
Sean @ Oct 29th 2007 2:48PM
Masturbatory purposes.
FidliousWong @ Oct 29th 2007 10:33AM
I hate, hate, HATE the new art style. Normally when I pick an avatar for a game, I prefer them to NOT come with the bonus of Syphilus. It's so very, very, very sad that the only way to get their females to look less whorish is to buy the alternative outfit.
Also, before anyone else beats me to it, Joystiq is the Sony Bias!
gonk @ Oct 29th 2007 10:34AM
does that mean they're biased for or against sony? because people accuse them of both almost every day
Paul P. @ Oct 29th 2007 10:39AM
So any girl dressed a little provocatively is a whore with syphilis. Nice deduction, douchebag.
AstroZombie @ Oct 29th 2007 10:52AM
I agree that the new art style is weak. For instance, why are the guitars so huge in relation to the characters? IGN's review says the animations are pretty bad, too.
FidliousWong @ Oct 29th 2007 10:56AM
There isn't really a fine line between provocative and whorish. In fact, the difference is quite easy to tell. Allow me to elaborate since apparently you can't tell.
Judy Nails
Provocative: Tight hooded sweater drawn down to a low v-neck and a skull t-shirt hugging her form snugly. Chains and such dangle giving her a very punk look. All achieved without looking like her character model escaped from BMX XXX.
Whorish: Torn wool sweater loosely covering her now anerexic and sickly skinny frame. Bra being the only thing keeping the twins at bay. Face taut and skinny, once again either malnourished or sickly. Bra remains too tight as cleanage presses out the edges of the bra and THO is completely normal mapped.
Maybe that was enough to point it out, maybe not. But there is definately a tad more scummish style to this game versus the previous two. After all, at no point in the original two do I remember strippers or grinders in skin tight latex bodysuits. But this game? Featured in almost every level. And for the record, it's not just me saying this. My girlfriend will ONLY play as Midori, the new girl, just because she's the only one... well, in clothes.
Paul P. @ Oct 29th 2007 10:36AM
Didn't realize BWii was this week as well. I am spending too much money on video games this week.
I got guitar Hero 3 for Wii because... I have a Wii and don't have a 360 or PS3. Pretty simple deduction. I also have a PS2, but don't have an online adapter for it and wouldn't particularly care for one.
Manhunt 2 as well? Screw it. If it's reviews are good I'll consider buying it next year, but I've got too many games to play as is between Bwii, Guitar Hero III, Zack and Wiki, and Phoenix Wright 3. And next week is Mario Galaxy. Jeez.
F. Rocker or Fernando R.? @ Oct 29th 2007 10:40AM
Mario Galaxy comes in two weeks, but believe me, this game is going to be the Game of the Year.
I'm pretty sure.
Paul P. @ Oct 29th 2007 10:51AM
Ah, next week is JAPAN'S date, not ours. Ok.
Also people saying 'X is going to be Game of the Year' is stupis. There's like 10 organizations handing out Game of the Year awards like candy, and none of them mean a damn thing.
F. Rocker or Fernando R.? @ Oct 29th 2007 10:54AM
So... am I stupis?
Paul P. @ Oct 29th 2007 12:35PM
Nope. Just the concept of 'This'll be Game of the Year for sure!' That's what is stupis. It is the most stupis thing of all, full of stupisidy.
F. Rocker or Fernando R.? @ Oct 29th 2007 10:42AM
Strangehold? Two months later?
gonk @ Oct 29th 2007 10:47AM
delaystation at work
F. Rocker or Fernando R.? @ Oct 29th 2007 10:48AM
The power of the Cell.
NATO_Duke @ Oct 29th 2007 11:09AM
Dude slow down. Are you posting 20 times a minute now?
xXFenixKnight13Xx @ Oct 29th 2007 11:23AM
Delaystation gotta love it
ulovemikeroch @ Oct 29th 2007 8:29PM
Damn Fenix, you're right on cue with that dick sucking.
GRANTED @ Oct 29th 2007 10:49AM
oh sh-t.
barbie island princess and disney princess: enchanted journey dropped the SAME. WEEK. someone's getting hosed.
kennethrios @ Oct 29th 2007 10:52AM
I personally cannot wait until I hear the "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" roaring out of my speakers like a “Bat Out of Hell”. “I done told you once, you son of a bitch, I'm the best that's ever been”.
FidliousWong @ Oct 29th 2007 10:59AM
Whores abound in Guitar Hero 3, but the bitch word is censored... go fig.
Zoidberg Jesus (a.k.a. Jebo) @ Oct 29th 2007 11:02AM
John 11:35 (Jesus wept)
Martin @ Oct 29th 2007 11:09AM
As if whores are exclusive to GH3. You're a douche.
Platy @ Oct 29th 2007 10:53AM
The Simpsons Game,Battalion Wars 2, Manhunt 2,Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, King of Fighters XI, Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness and Gears of War OSG deserves some love too .... oh .. and the ones with "Princess" in the tittle too xD
Jojo @ Oct 29th 2007 10:55AM
Anyone play the Witcher yet? I ask because I think its been out in Europe already? Any thoughts on it?
AstroZombie @ Oct 29th 2007 10:57AM
Pretty strong week for the Wii, for once. GH3, BWii, Manhunt 2 and The Simpsons. Looks like BWii will get lost in the shuffle, thanks to the Big N's non-advertising.
F. Rocker or Fernando R.? @ Oct 29th 2007 11:07AM
Yeah... finally some good games for the Wii. If this games sell well, I hope third party developers realize that they can make money, but only if they make good games.
I expect a lot of sales of the Simpsons games, specially the Wii version. Even I think that Guitar Hero Wii will sell more that the PS3 version, but not more than the 360 version.
megaStryke @ Oct 29th 2007 11:18AM
Dementium: The Ward should be out this week. Why isn't it on the list? The Wikipedia entry says it was released on the 26th, but it didn't appear on last week's release list either. Correct this injustice, please.
unfriendly_cat @ Oct 29th 2007 11:32AM
Yes, both Dementium and Panzer Tactics are due this week & missing from the list
xXFenixKnight13Xx @ Oct 29th 2007 11:31AM
Good times, GHIII for 360, but then next week
Call of Duty MOTHERFLOODPUCKING 4 lol!!
baby sea tuna @ Oct 29th 2007 11:34AM
Scored a street-date-broken copy of GHIII on Saturday, finished out medium last night. It's fun, but more of the same. Oh, and fuck some boss battles. Easily the worst "innovation" to come to the GH series.
The wireless Les Paul is really nice though. Can't wait to use it in Rock Band!
xXFenixKnight13Xx @ Oct 29th 2007 11:41AM
Poor Timeshift, what are they thinking by releasing this so close to the Halo3 craze. Also hope that since this new Gears OSG is coming out already for PC that they hurry up and announce that it is in fact going to be available for us 360 users via DLC on Live.
NATO_Duke @ Oct 29th 2007 11:57AM
OSG = Official Strategy Guide. Just an FYI that people may get confused.
xXFenixKnight13Xx @ Oct 29th 2007 12:31PM
LOL!! Thanks I was wondering what that meant, anyway still I want that damn DLC hopefully in 2 or 3 months when Teh Haloz Threez gets boring.
Sean @ Oct 29th 2007 12:23PM
I still can't decide to get GH3. I didn't realize the 360 version is 100 bones. I say, goddamn!
Skeffington @ Oct 29th 2007 12:29PM
I've been playing Disgea for the first time when I got it for my PSP. People told me it was good, and they were totally right. I wish more games had a sense of humour.
Forget about realistic blood spatters and head explodings in HD. I want more jokes in my games.
Lemmiwinks @ Oct 29th 2007 12:35PM
Online Guitar Hero matches are extremely addictive. I'm very glad that they were included in the Wii version.
I also like how the screw-ups come out of the wiimote speaker and not the TV, so it doesn't really frak with the music too much.
Did anybody else take the Gibson out of the box and just look at it for a while before playing? The white one sure is a purdy piece of kit.
Rob Accomando @ Oct 29th 2007 12:40PM
I think the women in GH3 are pretty hot, so does my wife. Guess we're freaks. Had problems connecting to live games though. No one on the list had a signal.
