Eternal Sonata on PS3: More characters, more story

We hope that these extra pieces are available as downloads to the Xbox 360 version as well, if only to help out those playing the game in the future. Anyone who has finished Eternal Sonata can probably tell you that although the gameplay is fun, the second half of the game's story falls apart, making little sense and feeling completely tossed together. It's probably best not to think of this new version of Eternal Sonata as an expansion so much as a giant patch.

well, i've been planning on picking this up for awhile now. now i have a reason to wait (dlc and price drop). plus i got the forza 2/ MUA double pack last night for 26 bucks. that should keep me occupied for awhile with bioshock and halo 3 and dead rising and tons of other games that i have neglected.

I was disappointed by ES's ending. It had so much great potential built up for it in the early half. Then came dungeon grinding with no plot, then the end, which was strange and ambiguous.
Oh well.

I just want to say this:
I have not played ES but based on this screen...
The whole RPG cliché in which one character is in a coma in a dream world and they have to fight their way back to sanity/reality is overplayed.
Let's start a list
1. The Longest Journey: Dreamfall
2. Grandia 2
3. Eternal Sonata?

Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 10 off the top of my head. It was only the entire story in 10. In the others, it was just a small part of the game.

FFVII was about someone with false memories to hide his hideous past of some crazy old mofo tapping on his aquarium glass while throwing glowing rocks in for cloud to feed on. The constant tapping drove him into his little sad phase.
FFVIII had no such issues. Everyone was in the same children's home but those weren't artificially lost memories. Those only explained why they would be trained to kill Edea.
FFX, the lead characters WERE the dream, not in one. Game ends, so did the dream.

Actually 8 had nothing to do with dreams as all those sequences represented parts were scenes from the past in which your consciousness was transported inside the other characters' by Ellone's weird ass ability.
FFX had a character made up from a dream transported to the "real world" who felt that the world he was transported to was fake and thought he could get home.
A better Final Fantasy example would be FFVI (3 in the U.S. for SNES), when Cyan is taken by the Dream Stooges if you sleep in Doma Castle in the World of Ruin.
Hmm, I think I may play too much final fantasy...

Chopin is not dead, he is currently living in Poland at a ripe old age of 197. ES totally got the history wrong on that one.

This game was brilliant. Whoever is complaining about the ending, did you happen to watch passed the credits? This annoyed me a bit, as it's a key to plot closure, but at least it's there. Also, I can see that the second half seemed to be missing a few things, but I wouldn't say it was terrible and "thrown together".
Although, knowing now that it appears they intentionally left out some story line does piss me off a bit. And if they don't release it as DLC on the 360 I'm going to start a one man ryot and they WILL be sorry!

err..actually, I don't mind, I waited for the arrival of Rogue Galaxy, altho at first it was sad (almost a freaking year delay...), the additions were awesome, and a whole new planet added a lot of stuff to the game.
just like I waited for FFXII and Rogue Galaxy for a year after being released, altho this is a different escenario, I will gladly wait for ES, the changes seem to be worth it

if you were to read the link, you would know that this time around, they mention that this changes will only be available for PS3, something that isnt mentioned on that "1.5 month old" article

By More story, they mean more long dialuge that hurts the review score. Just like the reason the 360 version for the score it got.
Back on subject. This seems to be happening alot. Timed exclusives for one side gets less then the people that get it next. VF5? online for the 360 ps3 no online.
That just means good news, more things for UT3 for 360 then the ps3 got. :)

That image reminds me of a story I heard of a few years ago, but I don't remember what it is.
Basically, this student falls asleep and wakes up in another world, but when he falls asleep or is knocked unconscious in the other world he wakes up in the real world. So it's like he's never sleeping at all. From what I remember he was a hero in the "dream" world.
Can someone help me out?

The story was great up until it took a huge left turn an decided to ponder the ambiguity of life and death. There must have been alot that was lost in translation, or wrapped up in deep Japanese mythological thinking because I just found it extremely confusing and not applicable to my experiences. They should have kept with the, what i thought was, great political story. Last thing this game needs though is more movies--I honestly feel bad for people buying the ps3 version.

The majority of people have a hard time figuring out that the story within the dream is only one part of the story. Think of everything you do and even the people you talk with and how they figure into Chopin's real emotions. Who represents what and who is what person in his real life. The whole game just opens up at that point.
Hell, even the name Count Waltz ends up making perfect sense. The little vignettes about Chopin's real life end up factoring heavily into the emotions presented by Chopin during each section and you see exactly how his feelings develop during his death. It's absolutely amazingly well-written.
I'm somewhat concerned by the changes to the game. Crescendo and Serenade both really shouldn't be with you at any point (Serenade especially) and if they ARE with you, it won't be until the last dungeon anyway. Costume changes are just superfluous. That also doesn't count how the last time Namco did something like this (the PS2 version of Tales of Symphonia), it A. was actually worse than the GC version and B. it didn't come out in the US.

Hopefully this somehow comes out for DLC on XBL, don't know how they would incorperate it, but I don't want to buy and beat ES again to get a better second half of the game story
