ESPN brings shows, games to Xbox Live Marketplace

Tired of getting college football and basketball games live, as they happen, for free as part of your cable package? Well, now you can pay extra for days-old copies of those games thanks to ESPN and the Xbox Live Marketplace.

We know, some people don't have cable or a VCR or access to a sports bar or anything better to do with $3 (for standard definition) or $4.50 (for high definition), but really, unless a game is a true instant classic, we can't see paying to download a copy of a game two days after it happened. Original programs like The Contender and Madden Nation might get our $2, but if we want to see the World Series of Poker we'll just tune in to ESPN and hope that they're showing one of their ten daily reruns of the tournaments.

My first question is "Why?" as well but I'm sure ESPN and MS have figured out that there are enough people out there willing to pay for it that it will be worthwhile.

If they gave us massive sets of their classic commercials for say 100 points for a set of say 25 - 30 ads I would almost think about it.

That was the only thing I ever enjoyed about ESPN. Those commercials were often very funny.

if that's the only thing you ever enjoyed about ESPN then you are definitely missing out IMHO bud. but neway, i dont (or plan to) own a 360, but if i did those commercials would be well worth a couple greenbacks. god those things are so hilarious! same deal with instant classics like last years Fiesta Bowl and that Texas vs. Oklahoma State 3OT thriller. other than that, no.

its still crazy to think that they are probably going to make bank off of this though because there are plenty of retards out there that would buy anything they put on there. glad us Joystiq-ers are smarter than that!

I was thinking the same thing. As a Boise State student, that game was beyond amazing. I have the DVD of the game, but the picture quality is horrible, especially watching on 90" screen on my HD projector. I would be more than happy to pay $4.50 to get that game in HD.
