Kristen Bell gets digitized for Assassin's Creed

Now, giving us a little taste, Ubisoft released the first image of what Kristen Bell looks like in the game. Despite a less than flattering hair style, the actual rendering looks extremely similar. Speaking about Kristen Bell, producer Jade Raymond stated she "is a remarkable actress who was able to bring her character to life in a dynamic way that I don't think anyone else could have done properly." We'd still prefer some QT with the less creepy Bell any day of the week, though.

Creepy-real likeness!
Oh, and it's "Jade" Raymond.
Shagittarius @ Nov 7th 2007 1:09PM
I couldn't tell that the 2nd image was rendered. I thought it was just her with her hair pulled back for a publicity shot.
Looks really good.
Grog @ Nov 7th 2007 1:17PM
It looks good now, but wait until you see it animated before passing judgement. In my experience, a good still rendering isn't good enough once you have to put all of those features in motion...
DWells55 @ Nov 7th 2007 1:21PM
Dunno, eyes, mouth, and skin complexion struck me as being off right away, plus there's an uncanny valley effect there. Maybe it's just an illusion by the hair, but it looks like the actual shape of the face is off slightly as well.
Jon @ Nov 7th 2007 1:24PM
Still has that dead eyes look and the hairs looks off. Otherwise well done.
Shagittarius @ Nov 7th 2007 1:33PM
I've seen people in real life who look waaaay more uncanny than this.
John Morgan @ Nov 8th 2007 4:47PM
The eyes are off, and the shape of her noggin' is all wrong up top! Almost downs-syndrome-like. I prefer the real Kristen Bell.
upz @ Nov 7th 2007 6:49PM
I like how the term "uncanny valley" has become a permanent occupant of the gamer's lexicon after we all read the Wikipedia article.
marcandrer @ Nov 7th 2007 1:02PM
Jane Raymond ? OMG does Jade have a twin sister !?!? :)
Grizz @ Nov 7th 2007 1:10PM
Where's the rest of her? (not-nude, im not a perv')
360FANMAN @ Nov 7th 2007 1:14PM
Nude please (I'm a perv)
shivr @ Nov 7th 2007 1:15PM
yeah... little creepy. somethin about the eyes...
dan stabbingworth @ Nov 7th 2007 1:19PM
And part of her lip.
HineyWipe @ Nov 7th 2007 1:28PM
I think one eye was mirrored off the other. Something they commonly do to save time (er cost).
inlogic @ Nov 7th 2007 2:14PM
yea mate, it's a problem of texture, the texture from one eye is the same to the other and they are just flipped so you are seeing two different lights sources when there's only one ambient light in the image!
I made an image with that one where I created a new eye texture and lighted them "correctly" to illustrate better what I'm telling:

I hope developers start giving more attention to eye texture than just putting a simple shinning spark over the eye :|
ScreamingSkull @ Nov 7th 2007 2:20PM
More than likely they mirrored the whole head. Which is also what makes it look a little off, seeing as how no matter how perfect someone looks, they aren't symmetrical.
GRANTED @ Nov 7th 2007 2:32PM
nice fix inlogic. but dont touch those lips. lovin the DSL.
upz @ Nov 7th 2007 6:53PM
Nice work, inlogic. That small change makes a world of difference.
shivr @ Nov 7th 2007 6:57PM
inlogic made it better! though still slightly creepy
Home Alone 8 @ Nov 7th 2007 1:23PM
It's close, the lips and eyes are a mite too big and a little off.
The hair is the killer though, makes the model look like Macaulay Culkin. Yack.
So is Kristen Bell on the Assassin's Creed hit list?
Foggy Bottoms @ Nov 7th 2007 3:54PM
the hair and the insanely plucked eyebrows
mr mobius @ Nov 7th 2007 1:24PM
Its a good attempt but unfortunately its so good that it falls under the category where instead of imagining realism, you notice the faults.
Trashman @ Nov 7th 2007 1:24PM
No hair pinned back please. Her hair in the one to the left is so much better and hot
Seth @ Nov 7th 2007 1:24PM
Huh, looks like they still need to do some work on the things that make her her. Like her eyebrows -- they're too thin. And the eyes are the wrong angle, or something. (and too light of course).
But yes, the render is surprisingly photo-real. It looks like Kristen at 14. :)
HineyWipe @ Nov 7th 2007 1:26PM
I think "samfish" avatar is hotter (of peach on her tummy).
Shmil @ Nov 7th 2007 1:27PM
there's something about the rendered picture that says missing chromosome
mr nimblewick (SegaDF - Jogurt Ring) @ Nov 7th 2007 1:28PM
My interest in AC just went from nonexistent to OMFG KIRSTEN BELL EYE LUV U!!!!!
Pimliconite @ Nov 7th 2007 1:29PM
GOOD
GOD
UNCANNY
VALLEY
Probably exacerbated by her already asymmetrical face.
Anyway, looking forward to killing her. I loved her "I was just shot in the face" performance in Deadwood.
thomas @ Nov 7th 2007 1:34PM
Mmmm, Kristen is so gorgeous =D
moominsean @ Nov 7th 2007 1:35PM
i dunno. the rendered version has that 'she's almost cute but probably has a disability' look to it.
Quastor @ Nov 7th 2007 1:36PM
Don't forget she plays "Elle" on Heroes as well!
FiredCylinder @ Nov 7th 2007 1:36PM
Someone needs to make an Uncanny Valley theme song.
Brent @ Nov 7th 2007 1:36PM
Why don't they just digitize Jade Raymond?
Trashman @ Nov 7th 2007 1:40PM
They should do this to Hayden Panettiere. I would so love that
Dixonij @ Nov 7th 2007 1:43PM
Did anyone else think the render looks somewhat like the Childlike Empress from the Neverending Story?
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Nov 7th 2007 5:17PM
A little, what was her name again?
:)
umm....hello??? @ Nov 7th 2007 1:57PM
...how about a new Jade Raymond picture, joystiq? did they digitize her yet??
Jack @ Nov 7th 2007 1:57PM
Not only can't she stand straight (referring to the first picture) she also looks ugly without make up on.(second one picture)
Martez @ Nov 7th 2007 2:10PM
The render makes her look 12. Good job on the nose and lips, though.
baby sea tuna @ Nov 7th 2007 2:37PM
Plus one for les chat dans le boite!
Shinagani @ Nov 7th 2007 2:11PM
That is creepy indeed, I had to read the post to make sure that second picture wasn't just a different photo...
Eddie @ Nov 7th 2007 2:33PM
KB is hot and you guys are hot for posting this.
Also, if I woke up next to the digitally rendered version, I'd probably go Assasin's Creed in real life.
Also, I'd probably go to jail (in real life) for waking up next to a 12 year old. A DIGITAL 12 year old...
You know what? Let's not think about this anymore.
Andy S. @ Nov 7th 2007 2:39PM
Seriously, have Joystiq forgotten who their audience is? I mean, Gossip Girl what? Veronica Mars who? What's next, semi-obscure references to High School Musical 2?
Tell us that she's on Heroes, for crying out loud. That's something your audience knows.
Seriously.
Eddie @ Nov 7th 2007 2:48PM
Andy, you are missing out if you aren't watching Gossip Girl dude.
My girlfriend loves it, and I can take a break from Halo every once in awhile for her! (Read: the chicks on that show are hot)
Veronic Mars was cool to watch too.
What do YOU watch? History Vs Hollywood, the 300 episode on repeat? Have fun with your buff dudes, I'll watch catty foxes be completely screwed up to each other.
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Nov 7th 2007 3:11PM
The first 2 seasons of Veronica Mars was some of the best television ever. Period.
And I've seen a lot of TV...
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Nov 7th 2007 2:51PM
Yeah, I agree with the guy who said there was an uncanny valley effect with the rendered pic.
nez @ Nov 7th 2007 3:33PM
This is just a reference skin and not a final render, right? Cause the dead, UV look here definately comes from the flat eyes and general lack of texture or mapping in the cheeks. Color looks good tho.
Chyld989 @ Nov 7th 2007 4:04PM
It looks pretty good, although it's immediately noticable that it's a render (people really thought it was just a second picture of her??). The only thing that REALLY bugs me about the render is that the way her lips droop down on one side make it look like that whole side of her face is sliding off. That definitely needs to be fixed.
Deck @ Nov 7th 2007 4:22PM
Top lip in the rendering looks a bit funny to me.
jeremy @ Nov 7th 2007 6:17PM
like the hair.
