Japanese hardware sales, Oct. 29 - Nov. 4: Once in a life cycle edition

With the Xbox 360 bizarrely (and barely) surpassing the PlayStation 3 this week, we've learned to never let our guards down again. Who knows what remarkable event may rattle the fanboy cages next? Perhaps the Xbox 360 will surge ahead of the DS Lite next week? The PlayStation 3 might overtake the Wii! Predictability is truly dead, and we've no time to mourn as we rush headlong into exciting times! Next week will be amazing, we're sure of it!

lol nice pic
VampireHunter Z @ Nov 9th 2007 9:42PM
The 360 is always what makes these charts interesting. As the underdog you don't know what could happen next. People could predict all they want but you just can't tell.
BTW amazing pic.
behemothzero @ Nov 9th 2007 9:48PM
That pic actually makes for a nice PSP wallpaper. I'm using it.
James @ Nov 9th 2007 10:28PM
Wait you're actually using a PSP? Let me take a picture.
Brello @ Nov 10th 2007 1:11AM
Why do so many hate the PSP? I like it about as much as I do my DS, maybe it's just me.
Aberu @ Nov 10th 2007 2:10AM
I know why the PSP gets hated on. Because it is the first handheld to truly give Nintendo some competition in the handheld market. You see, competition is good for consumers, but apparently bad for Nintendobots.
SKI @ Nov 10th 2007 8:07AM
PSP is hated on because when it launched people expected much more of it, and it didn't deliver. Add to that the fact there has been no stand out games for it that aren't ports until only a couple months ago. Most people just became disenfranchised with the PSP and in the video game crazy land of Joystiq, that means you must hate on it and any new SKUs forever.
fawazr @ Nov 10th 2007 8:20AM
Just go back two years to see all the anti-DS hate and how so many believed it would be a complete failure while the PSP would be the second coming.
ChrisG @ Nov 11th 2007 1:47AM
I'm rooting for the 360, but with the increased japanese sales I'm scared the once or if red ring of death or the new alleged "green ring" occurs that it could bite Microsoft in the ass.
NintendoFanbot @ Nov 9th 2007 9:45PM
Wii and 360 have done the fusion dance!
Wii60's dominance has just begun!
Or maybe Wii's dominance continues except while letting 360 bask in some reflected glory.
Raikage (NDF - PK THUNDER RING) @ Nov 11th 2007 3:11PM
Wa what? IT'S OVER 9000!!!
Blast Processing Megadrive @ Nov 9th 2007 9:49PM
360 goes up... And PS3 goes down...
THIS IS MADNESS!!
... And I'm sure the upcoming special edition of iDOLM@STER will help a bit (which includes a new version of the game that is, literally, hands-free!).
Peter @ Nov 9th 2007 10:16PM
Your icon is awesome. :) Companion Cube FTW!!
jamma @ Nov 10th 2007 9:37AM
Madness!?!?!
THIS IS SPARTA!!!!
(or maybe just Spartan-117 that's helping sell the 360)
Geist @ Nov 9th 2007 9:50PM
"Who knows what remarkable event may rattle the fanboy cages next?"
I would say hell freezing over, but that's already happened. Demons spurting from manholes? I dunno, after this, would it even surprise anyone?
/sarcasm...I think?
gir @ Nov 9th 2007 9:55PM
How the hell did this happen? Did halo just come out there? Or did they just notice it?
Airen @ Nov 9th 2007 10:02PM
Ace Combat 6, Idolm@ster, Earth Defense Force 3
Halo 3's been out for at least a month now.

Oreo @ Nov 9th 2007 9:59PM
Why is the PSP so high too?! It's like a double whammy of shock!
Brandon @ Nov 10th 2007 12:52AM
Its been that high for a while now.
Ihar `Philips` Filipau @ Nov 10th 2007 4:58AM
Good games finally are getting released on PSP. So it is going up.
Donald @ Nov 9th 2007 10:08PM
I saw it and I cannot unsee it.
Also, where's the podcast?
F. Rocker or Fernando R.? @ Nov 9th 2007 10:19PM
And for the last two weeks, here in America also happen the impossible... the Wii outsold the 360 here in USA.
F. Rocker or Fernando R.? @ Nov 9th 2007 10:21PM
How do I say "happen" in past?
gonk @ Nov 9th 2007 10:26PM
say "the impossible also happened, the wii outsold the 360"
although I thought it had been doing that for a while
hvnlysoldr @ Nov 9th 2007 11:21PM
The miracle never happen.
Loki @ Nov 10th 2007 12:07AM
SMG sure didn't have much of a effect on pushing Wii sales in japan...
Rubang B (BRUSH WITH FAME) @ Nov 11th 2007 6:33AM
Pushing Wii sales is like... throwing sunshine.
(You see, it's already going the speed of light and has no competition.)
EddieBrentwood @ Nov 9th 2007 10:21PM
Actually PS3 may, just may surpass Wii next week since it is getting heavy advertising and a price but I think on the 11th in Japan.
baka_07 @ Nov 9th 2007 10:24PM
NObody can explain what just happened in japan, the land of sony n nintendo. I guess this will show some anti western japanese gamers to reconsider the odd of buying an Xbox 360.
James @ Nov 9th 2007 10:26PM
Did you guys make a big deal about the PS3 and Wii gap closing in, and now it's widening again shouldn't another big deal be made?
I mean it won't be. But I just thought it would be nice to point out.
Jonny @ Nov 9th 2007 10:34PM
Dude, could you be more right?
Santo @ Nov 9th 2007 10:43PM
A break from the status quo deserves more mention than a resumption of it.
Although I noticed it too.
Loki @ Nov 10th 2007 12:22AM
Nintendo Drops SMG and wii only jumps 10 thousand, yeah thats impressive...
Just like those zak and wiki numbers.
mr nimblewick (SegaDF - Jogurt Ring) @ Nov 10th 2007 10:56AM
Unless, Loki, the Wii just got back up to sell-out numbers, and can't go up any higher at the moment.
Tom @ Nov 9th 2007 10:31PM
Ace Combat 6's "Bomb Pearl Harbor" mission must have piqued their interest.
Slaziman @ Nov 10th 2007 10:55AM
too soon man too soon
EddieBrentwood @ Nov 9th 2007 10:33PM
sorry, bad english! it is getting a price cut on the 11th I wanted to say.

Jonny @ Nov 9th 2007 10:37PM
I know. As soon as that thing is less than a DS Lite I'm picking one up! The way things are going that should happen around my birthday in February.
zero @ Nov 9th 2007 10:48PM
GO XBOX!
Seriously though, I hope that this trend continues so there is a deeper and wider gene pool of games for all plat forms. The more things get "mixed up," the better the game selection will be for everyone.
LaughingMan @ Nov 9th 2007 11:03PM
PS3- The fun machine took a shit and died.
westside101 @ Nov 9th 2007 11:04PM
i blame halo 3
samfish @ Nov 9th 2007 11:27PM
I'm more surprised that the PSP is still going as strong as it is, more than anything. I keep expecting it to crater and it just kinda hangs in there the best it can.
Lifted 0ne 4l9 (NDF - Fire!) @ Nov 10th 2007 12:39AM
Samfish i can not explain how amusing your icon is it makes me laugh everytime i see it
jopojelly @ Nov 10th 2007 12:14AM
Yeah, whats up with the PSP? why is it still there?
Psaakyrn @ Nov 10th 2007 12:17AM
Probably because they cater to slightly different markets, so it's unlikely the PSP will die out anytime soon.
Brello @ Nov 10th 2007 1:07AM
..because both of the portables are all kinds of awesome? That's my opinion, anyways.
Psaakyrn @ Nov 10th 2007 12:15AM
@Loki
From what I heard, Wii sales is purely limited by console availability. Not sure how long I'll buy that though.
