Nine things you may not know about Rock Band
Interestingly, we're not sure that these are necessarily nine things that make us want to rush out an purchase Rock Band. Like the fact that Harmonix has a full band practice area in their basement. That honestly just kind of makes us jealous. We are, however, intrigued by the possibility of including keyboards or (more importantly) cowbell to the set in sequels.
We're also happy to hear that the devs have based their World Tour Mode on the experiences of cool bands like Freezepop. We'd like to humbly suggest that other bands be consulted for sequels, like a "Sex Pistols" mode consisting of an hour of fun and three decades of coke-fueled irrelevance. And don't miss the "Def Leppard" mode, sure to be the one time no one's fighting to be the drummer.

The 20th can't come soon enough!
blehh @ Nov 9th 2007 1:30PM
yeah, this game needed more cowbell.
Geist @ Nov 9th 2007 1:45PM
Ya gotta have more cowbell.
colin @ Nov 9th 2007 7:51PM
is that a turd on a waffle?
gonk @ Nov 9th 2007 1:36PM
there wasn't really anything interesting in those 9 factoids
McWeen @ Nov 9th 2007 1:36PM
Awesome Sex Pistols jab.
KiraXD @ Nov 9th 2007 1:49PM
except for the fact that it was mostly Heroin-fueled irrelevance, (do people just automatically think coke when talking about Sex Pistols? ...idiots)
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Nov 9th 2007 3:02PM
No, but they do think of one hour of fun and three decades of irrelevance.

I'm pretty sure that I know how they accomplish no lag.
They don't transmit the vocal track at all first off. So basically at that point you're just left with the problem of letting everyone else know that you screwed up.
You just queue an appropriate error locally when you receive the "Basist Fucked Up" packet across the network. No need to have it synchronous, you're just concerned about overall considerations of band quality.
Asynchronous errors is the way to go, and it's what I assume they mean by "fakery."

(edit, I think my post was blocked for swearing :D)

What the fuck!?!
You can't be fucking serious, this is a fucking outrage god dammit!
Okay, with that out of the way, I'm stoked for this game. I have been since the first announcement of it and it just seems to keep getting better. And the demo at the local BestBuy (setup like a couple of monkeys did it, wait, they did) and it really proved the worth of the game.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Nov 9th 2007 1:48PM
The devs ARE Freezepop. The Duke of Candied Apples (I can't write his new name) and Sean T. Drinkwater of Freezepop work at Harmonix and in fact are on tour right now.

On the left side of the pic in the item here, there is a carbon-copy of the new, way over the top Judy Nails.
Why did Harmonix copy the new, stupidly extreme Judy Nails?
Burritoclock @ Nov 9th 2007 2:29PM
You create your own avatar/character, so someone chose this it is not forced...
deaftly @ Nov 9th 2007 3:39PM
gotta love the new boob physics on judy in gh3
Buckshot @ Nov 9th 2007 1:51PM
The whole thing reads like shameless self promotion. That being said, I will still pick one up for $169 at least to give it the benefit of the doubt and try it out. I never liked singstar, but that was probably from the lame tracks and using the socom mike.
Bearxor @ Nov 9th 2007 2:07PM
Oh snap! Did you guys see the dig Harmonix took at Neversoft on point number 3?
-------------------------
We definitely encourage people to be playing music. We want people to be living that vibe that we are all about because otherwise we’d kind of just be fakers. Obviously we are making video games and that’s what we’re about, but we are also musicians, and it’s the combination of us being musicians and videogame makers that really makes us have that special quality. It’s kind of pervasive throughout the entire company. We wouldn’t bother trying to make skateboarding games.”

I did notice that. Kinid of expected it really. I've had the same thoughts. You can really tell, when playing Guitar Hero III, that Neversoft doesn't have the musical expertise that Harmonix does. Oddly enough, the main way I see it is in the little jokes on the load screen before a song. Harmonix's lines were much more about the life and times of a band. Neversoft's are cliche'd band jokes. Just subtle stuff like that.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Nov 9th 2007 5:29PM
Yeah, the cliches, but more that the gameplay in GH3 is more mechanical (despite the changes on chords and pulloffs). It plays more like Simon or Parappa the Rapper to me and less like GH1/2.

Another factoid is that there is going to be a shortage on this game when it releases. Talked to my local Gamestop today. They are onlygetting 27 on release day and those are all preordered. Luckly I Payed for mine in full about a month ago.
gonk @ Nov 9th 2007 5:45PM
well gamestop is fucking lame, they never order more than they get preorders for
ALH @ Nov 9th 2007 5:32PM
6 hour nonstop play mode? wow, That sounds pretty intense.
Shame this game is very anti single player, but i bet it would be a fun one to have up for a party.
Abscissa @ Nov 9th 2007 8:38PM
Am I the only one here who noticed that Harmonix has just admitted to obtaining software patents? ... From the silence, I take it I'm the only one here who's outraged by it? ... If so, I guess I'm the only coder here...
Saq @ Nov 9th 2007 11:01PM
I am! /me quickly patents the for loop and sues abscissa
GrossGreg @ Nov 10th 2007 5:03PM
lol - How about a "Motley Crue mode" where the drummer has to take a dive off the roof while playing?
Or a "Red Hot Chili Peppers mode" where the band is only allowed to wear tube socks?
Finally, they should include a "Gwar mode" where...well, if you're familiar with Gwar, you know where I'm going with this one...better put a tarp over that plasma screen.
crash930 @ Nov 21st 2007 6:36PM
I just got rockband for the xbox 360. I have 42 inch widescreen plasma Hitachi HDTV and I lag. I've tried every setting for HD in the 360 also tried all the settings in the game for various tv's. Even tried manual calbration, still lags. EA Games isn't to sure why.
