Supreme Commander confirmed for Xbox 360
The announcement of Supreme Commander marching to the Xbox 360 comes as little surprise following the comments made last month by Gas Powered Games founder, Chris Taylor. Though he didn't specify an exact destination at the time, Taylor did reveal that the Xbox 360 was "the platform of choice" when shifting titles from PC to console. Supreme Commander will join a growing number of real-time strategy titles on the system, not to mention the always pleasing group of games featuring impossibly huge robots. Other fascinating bullet-points sure to riddle the back of the Xbox 360 packaging are "new units," "new multiplayer modes," "updated maps" and lest we forget, "the most epic hostilities ever seen in an RTS game." The port will be completed with the aid of Hellbent Games and then published by Aspyr in early 2008.

If only the 360 had mouse and keyboard support.. ;_;
Rususeruru @ Nov 13th 2007 8:29PM
Cross your fingers! They still haven't released the full details for the Winter/Fall Update! At least that I know of.
Howl @ Nov 15th 2007 9:53PM
Nothing worthwile, just another crappy PC to 360 port.
Jake @ Nov 13th 2007 11:14PM
Supreme Commander is a decent game. Command and Conquer on 360 was fun, or at least I enjoyed Gameflying it and playing through the campaigns. I wouldn't call this a killer app, but it isn't necessarily shovelware either.
gonk @ Nov 13th 2007 8:29PM
i thought the wii was the console for shovelware

I got it! A new brand of clothing for Wii owners.
I call it.......Casual Shovelwear.
See what I just did there? Awesome.
Brello @ Nov 13th 2007 9:23PM
I don't think its quite bad enough to be shovelware. It got good enough reviews, so somebody must like it. Me, I thought it was a total borefest on PC.
DemonGSides @ Nov 13th 2007 10:09PM
brello, my good sir, you win for greatest Icon on a Profile.
TS FTW.
Shockgamer @ Nov 13th 2007 8:58PM
Gotta hand it to EA. They've really led a new wave of RTS games on consoles.
Neebs @ Nov 13th 2007 9:03PM
Why?
Rususeruru @ Nov 13th 2007 9:21PM
Why not?
Einhanderkiller @ Nov 13th 2007 9:49PM
Because Supreme Commander has the capability of bringing even the most powerful of computers to its knees late into the game, what with the thousands of units moving around. The amount of lag in this game can get pretty severe. Late into the game, it sometimes takes several minutes for a unit to respond to a command, whereas right when the game starts the unit responds instantly. It's a fantastic game, but there are some major issues with it. Many have been fixed in Forged Alliance, but as far as I know, some nagging issues still exist. Hellbent Games will have their work cut out for them if they want this game to work and work properly on the Xbox 360.

The quality of Xbox to PC ports has grown pretty awesome--- Lost Planet and Gears of War both came out fantastic-- as the 360 is basically a mini PC itself. I hope you guys get some of the same in return.
Microsoft really should be trying to embrace the 360 as a PC for those who don't want to waste the money to PC game-- with mouse and keyboard support, supporting games with those on PC, support for downloadable user content, etc. If they don't, and ps3 does, it's a big obvious mistake on their part-- the makers of the world's most important OS.
Garrett @ Nov 13th 2007 9:21PM
completely agree, I used to be a big PC gamer but stopped playing around 2001 because I could no longer afford/care about keeping up with newest requirements every month, and switched to consoles. I'm really happy with the movement of games that used to be more PC focused, like elder scrolls and half-life, to xbox and I would love to see more of that
Brello @ Nov 13th 2007 9:31PM
I'll jump on this "Damn, PCs are becoming too much of a cashsink" bandwagon! I used to keep my computer reasonably up to date when it only took a few bucks, but now it takes multiple graphics cards, loads of ram, cooling stuff and a beast of a power supply. This stuff is good for absolutely nothing but games (in my case) and just ends up making my computer a noisy power hungry cash devourer--and then it's obsolete in a few months. Screw it.
All that nonsense makes consoles a hell of a lot more attractive, especially with how well multiplayer is being handled these days. Though admittedly, I still find myself playing my portables more than all the other stuff combined. Last bastion of new classic-styled games.

I don't see why people keep saying its so difficult\expensive to upgrade a PC to keep up increasing system reqs. An ATI x1950XT\Pro or Nvidia 7950 is more than capable of dealing with even games like Crysis (the dx10 thing is a front, its dx9 - even most of the dx10 features are enable-able via ini using a dx9 card and they work fine) and Supreme Commander. The current generation top end cards, and especially SLI configs are just overkill.
deaftly @ Nov 14th 2007 1:40PM
i used to be a pc gamer to an extant, but honestly its just easier (and more enjoyable)to pop in a game and relax on the couch and enjoy some big screen hdtv gaming.no installing, no worries about compatibility and basically no bullshit. plus what do you do when you have friends over and want to play games. im done with pc gaming forever.
Deck @ Nov 13th 2007 9:25PM
This is great news! I hope that the port is done well. I heard that CnC3 was good on the 360 comparing it to the PC. I've really wanted to play Supreme Commander but my PC just can't handle it and I switched to 360 this past year as upgrading my PC all the time was just becoming too expensive.
Killer Loki @ Nov 13th 2007 9:44PM
Good grief - why? That game chugged on a high end PC and now they're put it on the 360?? Expect some serious dumbing down to accomplish it.
Synner @ Nov 13th 2007 9:50PM
I don't think it'sll be that bad. I mean it could be at 720p, which is not that high of a resolution. And unified hardware that could be programmed specifically to be taken advantage of would make it a little better. Plus you subtract the bloat of your OS and antivirus software and all the assorted processesx that are running in the background of the average PC.
Negativecool @ Nov 13th 2007 10:33PM
God...I haven't asked you for much...Well, much of anything that didn't give me an ample supply of personal wealth but...
Could you personally resolve those rrod issues and bring the GT series, MGS4, and the remake of FFVII over to the 360 so the PS3 will die...
ukickmydog (NDF - Earth) @ Nov 13th 2007 11:22PM
LOL RROD YOU WIN LOL HAHAHAHAHA ROFL LOL
WiNG @ Nov 13th 2007 11:15PM
I actually think the Wii will end up the best system for RTS, since it has the closest thing to Mouse controls.
IR: point/select
A: Issue default command on target
DPAD: issue 4 secondary commands (patrol, etc)
Control stick: pan camera
C: Jump to {something}
Z: Center camera on current unit
Z+Tilt nunchuck: change camera angle
B+any: Secondary command list (thus doubling available commands)
gonk @ Nov 14th 2007 1:53AM
but it's severely underpowered, so to keep lots of units on screen, the graphics will be shit
GRANTED @ Nov 14th 2007 9:26AM
RTS is supposed to have fun, accessible online play. Good luck with that on the Wii.
Superstar90 @ Nov 14th 2007 10:38AM
@gonk and granted
What do you mean? The Wii can obviously handle an RTS, not like PC, but online and decent graphics can be done on the Wii. Stop hating!
doggoneit @ Nov 14th 2007 9:37AM
lol.....JEALOUS PS3 TOYS, always trying to put a xbox360 game down, even when it is the biggest selling software ever! The highest rated softwares even....The best graphics ever, they STILL try to put it down! They even root for a third party xbox game to beat a first party one just because they know they will get a port with ( even though they know it will haveinferrior graphics) of it. LOL! pathetic!
sam @ Nov 14th 2007 11:32AM
I will only buy this game if it has mouse and keyboard support. C'mon MS what's the deal with not allowing games to have that kind of support.
James B @ Nov 14th 2007 12:53PM
As awesome as the idea sounds (CnC3 on 360 was very good), I doubt this will turn out well. Seriously, Supreme Commander brought even the best of computers down to their knees - what makes them think the 360 will cope any better.
