Mass Effect banned in Singapore over lesbian scene
If a human female and a humanoid alien who is classified as female want to express their love in a physical manner, who are we to interrupt the natural order of the universe? According to Singapore newspaper The Straits Times, the government's Media Development Authority has banned BioWare's Mass Effect from sale in the country.
As reported by Reuters, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said, "the city-state should keep its conservative values and not allow special rights for homosexuals." The lesbian scene was posted on GameVideos earlier this week before Microsoft asked them to remove it.

Singapore actually buys non-pirated games?
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Nov 14th 2007 11:13PM
Honestly, I'm just as surprised as you are
silentio @ Nov 15th 2007 12:14AM
Yes. A good number of Singaporeans do buy original games. It's actually hard to find pirated discs here these days, not as rampant as it was just a few years ago.
That said, the vast majority still download ISOs and buy pirated discs when the opportunity arises. The attitude towards respecting IP is very poor here. Parents pirate and children learn it from young when they use a R4 with their DS to play Pokemon. A sad state of affairs which is improving only slightly. But it's better than no improvement at all.

I bet Iran will ban this game, cause there are no gays in Iran.
gonk @ Nov 14th 2007 10:43PM
if there are no gays in iran then this game shouldn't make a difference in that, since these are virtual
*wink*
man iran is so fucked up. well all hardcore muslims are
DangerMouse @ Nov 14th 2007 10:49PM
I don't think video games are sold in Iran, anyway.
F1 @ Nov 14th 2007 11:36PM
They are but they all end in you blowing up.
Nick @ Nov 15th 2007 12:05AM
@gonk
Too bad only a tiny portion of Iranians are "hardcore" Muslims. Don't believe everything you see on Fox.
gonk @ Nov 15th 2007 12:07AM
they should overthrow their government then and erect one that represents the majority
Nick @ Nov 15th 2007 12:24AM
Funny, I would say the same thing about the US government.
gonk @ Nov 15th 2007 12:39AM
bush was re-elected by 51% of the voters... (not by me though)
hvnlysoldr @ Nov 15th 2007 1:14AM
Having worked in the previous election Nov 6, 2007, let me tell you this. Don't change the voting machines again. It cost us a pretty penny already for new machines. And then they made us buy brand new ones in the next election. Ugh. And don't get me started on photo ID, absentee, and provisional votes.
Jake @ Nov 15th 2007 8:44AM
There are about as many "hardcore Muslims" in Iran as we have hardcore rednecks that truly believe we should nuke Iran. It is a lot, but certainly not the majority. If fact, Iran's youth generally want a more progressive future.
GRANTED @ Nov 15th 2007 9:56AM
I don't think we are talking about hardcore Muslims--true Muslims only care about following the Koran and don't give a shit about the US. you are talking about extremist radicals, called so because they are not in the majority. And the movement would be much smaller and more isolated if: 1. it wasn't funded by the Iranian government, and 2. the US didn't involve itself in what is bound to be a decades-long conflict in the Middle-East. The hilarity of the whole situation is as long as U.S. treats Middle-Eastern nations like shit, Anti-US hard-liner fundamentalists will stay in power and will continue to fund terrorist cells and promote a culture of terrorist extremism.
I'd rather deal with a hardliner Muslim than an evangelical Christian any day, and I'm Catholic.
JLynx @ Nov 15th 2007 10:41AM
Can we get back on the Mass Effect talk now? Save the huffing and puffing for another blog.
upz @ Nov 15th 2007 12:26PM
"...well all hardcore muslims are."
Perhaps, but we could say that same about "hardcore" Chrisians and probably even "hardcore" gamers, Mr. Narrowminded.
Bluebrake @ Nov 14th 2007 10:43PM
"the city-state should keep its conservative values and not allow special rights for homosexuals."
Do you mean "equal rights"? Fuck, I hate these people.
Jon @ Nov 15th 2007 3:32AM
You should google 'Thio li Ann' and see what the country has become.

Richard @ Nov 14th 2007 10:43PM
Ahh, yes, "special rights." Such as those considered normal rights for everyone else.
DangerMouse @ Nov 14th 2007 10:47PM
