This Wednesday: Undertow washes ashore on XBLA island

Although the hubbub may be about the new, downloadable Halo 3 maps socking it to you next month, Microsoft also used today's announcement to remind us that we'll finally be seeing Undertow on the Xbox Live Arcade this week. As you can see from the above trailer, it's basically BioShock meets Aquaman meets shooting things. ... Or something.

But this XBLA release got our old friend Stephen Totilo wondering: How do publishers make the most of their 50 XBLA megabytes? He got the answer to his question recently, via a pie chart from developer Chair Entertainment. The gameplay in the video looks like it could be fun. I'll give this game a try. Oh, and Joystiq, it looks nothing like BioShock other than they are both underwater. Try something like Critical Depth for a better comparison. Without having played it, it looks like a cross between Critical Depth and any number of 2D shooters.

The Spartan helmet with white bra and panties villain made me laugh. Not sure what was going on (watched without sound.)

The game play looks pretty colorful and intense though.

I feel bad for any Developer releasing a game this time of year on Xbox Live Arcade. So many fools ignore or don't know about he arcade to begin with, trying to get the word out with all the Triple-A titles being released probably just sucks. I imagine that during the summer, Arcade games sell much better since all the Hardcore gamers taht pay attention to the Arcade are game starved.
