Rock Band store accessories and the drum bag
Harmonix's Rock Band store is mostly full of unnecessary merchandise, but there are a few things that might help in protecting your $170 "music platform." As the drum set taking up a square meter of real estate in the living room grows into an eyesore, the one handy thing the store has is the Rock Band drum bag.
The $50 drum bag is an easy storage solution when "company" comes over. Nobody likes the first question out of a new visitor during the holidays when they see the drum kit to be, "What the hell is that thing?!" There are also guitar and drum stick sleeves, plus new drum sticks and stickers in the store that are neat, but the drum bag does feel like an obvious solution to something that will be an issue in time. Disassembling the kit and putting it into a Bloomingdales Big Brown Bag just seems wrong. But if someone finds other DIY storage solutions we're all ears.

Well Gruble you probably don't like the game for a lot of reasons.
1) You have no friends
2) You are a fatass and probably can't lift your arms high enough to play the drums
3) Your family abandoned you at the grand canyon because once again you are fat and no one likes you
so stick to single player games that are offline I guess since everyone hates you and your fat ass
Petrie85 @ Feb 18th 2008 3:00AM
Wow, that was totally uncalled for and immature...because he doesn't like the game he's a fatass?!?
Wow.
Gruble @ Nov 21st 2007 1:41PM
I don`t see why people like this game so much. Who has the time to get enough friends together to play this regularly to warrant a purchase?
The majority of people will probably use it 2-3 times and then it`ll collect dust.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Nov 21st 2007 1:45PM
Dude, just because you don't have any friends, doesn't mean everybody else doesn't either.
bounchfx @ Nov 21st 2007 1:58PM
"The majority of people will probably use it 2-3 times and then it`ll collect dust."
wow.
wrong.
Gruble @ Nov 21st 2007 1:57PM
Well, I can understand it if you live at a university dormitory or something like that. Then I`m sure people will play it like hell. Students have too much time on their hand anyway ;)
All I`m saying is that the sheer amount of equipment needed to get the most out of this game seriously limits the customer demographic. So I doubt this will be much of a financial success.
Jack @ Nov 21st 2007 1:58PM
I remember when I had Guitar Hero 1 and I would gather the troops after work (about 7 people) and we'd march to my house and play and drink all night. It was awesome. This time around though we won't have to wait as long to have a turn. AND everyone is involved in a group effort. And when everyone goes home and play with my girlfriend and make beautiful music together.
Ahhh. Times are good.

Not necessarily. I'm 30 and I've already had 4 people over to play this, 3 of which were interested in making it a weekly thing. Sounds like that might inhibit dust collection just a little bit...
Gruble @ Nov 21st 2007 2:12PM
Never said anything about people not enjoying the game, I`m sure it`s a lot of fun! Just saying that, not many people will invest in it.
So it will probably become a niche product.
ill trooper @ Nov 21st 2007 2:22PM
Maybe for some people. My girlfriend and I live together and we played it last night for hours. It's great! I know that sort of infatuation (with the game!) won't last forever, but with the onslaught of downloadable songs coming (I already bought the Police pack) I see this thing being a party staple for the next year. So, 'one down' out of the "2-3" you're predicting.
And as for the 'make money' aspect, I'm thinking they're planning on the downloads providing a long, long tail of profit.
jsn @ Nov 21st 2007 2:32PM
we have parties with friends all the time, either at their places or at ours and this game will be everything guitar hero has been, x4. We've already come up with shot rules!
brad77 @ Nov 21st 2007 2:47PM
Don't forget about the online play. It's not so hard to get your friends to agree to play at a certain time, regardless of where they are.
Farseer (GDI) @ Nov 21st 2007 3:44PM
Yeah... and pretty much the only way to have multiplayer on the Wii is if everyone is together in the same room...
And the Wii sure turned out to be a niche product, didn't it?
zac @ Dec 1st 2007 12:13PM
Well maybe you just don't have friends because in the past week and a few days I've probably played it 60-70 hours, and had it at 6 differnt places with a total of maybe 30 people that have played it. Everyone has loved it even if they have never played games like this. To me it's the best group game made. And the drums are great even on solo.
Billy Dart @ Dec 20th 2007 10:14AM
WOW you must not have any friends. My friends and I play all the time. We get our families together each week and have karaoke night. It has brought us closer and Friends and is a lot of fun. Beats just going out to the bars and sitting around yelling at each other over the loud music.
Family of 5 @ Dec 31st 2007 4:08PM
My husband and I have 3 children and we have to take turns playing! This is great fun for the whole family!!! It was a worthwhile investment for fun anytime!
3LegggedDawg @ Jan 26th 2008 11:45PM
My wife, my son, and I bought Rock Band for the 360 a little before Xmas. That night we brought it over to my brother's house. His wife, daughter and the rest of us played for about 4 hours. They went out the next day and bought a 360 and Rock Band. On weekends we bring our extra guitar so we can have a 4 member band. We keep our eyes on the new song releases as well. We play at home 3 - 4 times a week. It has given us something to do together that is interactive and fun...
hedgehoggy @ Nov 21st 2007 1:47PM
$50 just to store one component of a game? I remember when you just bought a game and that was it - no limited edition nonsense, let along Legendary Editions which I'm sure has left an awful lot of people with pre-order regret at this point when they look at the useless helmet collecting dust.
And joysticks just had one button too - those were the days...
Jack @ Nov 21st 2007 1:55PM
Useless helmet? Well what were you expecting? How disappointed were you when you realized that no cross hairs showed up when you pointed your toy guns after shoving your head into it?
umm....hello??? @ Nov 21st 2007 1:57PM
whaddya mean?? my cat loves his helmet.
now all I need is a little dog like Paris Hilton's and get it a tight suit and they can go Trick or Treating as Cortana and the MasterChief.
Seifer @ Nov 21st 2007 2:08PM
Storage, schmorage. You ever try schlepping those drums around to a friend's house? It ain't fun or easy.
Brett @ Nov 21st 2007 1:51PM
Pshh I'm not going to hide the drums. It's a great way to get others involved in the game. Besides the huge space it consumes it's a great way to introduce someone to the game.
"Hey what's that thing for?"
"Oh, it's for rock band, wanna see?"
"Sure!"
Hooked forever. Friend +1
jsn @ Nov 21st 2007 2:35PM
That is exactly how it goes down too! Comment of the thread to you, I lol'd.
343 Guilty Fart @ Nov 21st 2007 1:54PM
$50, or my closet? I'll choose closet.
umm....hello??? @ Nov 21st 2007 1:55PM
So I kept the boxes that all that stuff came in...and if I need to store the gear, that's what I'll be using. Either that or a spare duffel bag for when I bring it to my friend's this weekend for some rocking out.
@Gruble-
that's probably true for about 50% of purchasers, but my friends and I play GH1,2,+3 all the time when we get together (about 2-3x per month). and don't forget you can still play ONLINE with your friends, so even if it's 2ppl at your place and 2ppl at your friends, it's still a great game.
Red Dog Melvin @ Nov 21st 2007 2:16PM
Gruble - you know the reason these games are so popular is because they are great party games, and not everyone who plays games these days is a kid. People, like me, with disposable incomes that have been playing video games since the 70's love this shizz.
Jess Q. @ Nov 21st 2007 2:28PM
We justified getting Rock Band because me and my boyfriend are gamers, and my boyfriend's niece and nephew are over a lot. They're like 10 and 12. Great way for us all to have fun while the boyfriend and I wait for the next semester of school to start.
It would kinda suck if you had no friends at all, I guess. If that was the case I'd buy a drumset. Most people who'd get Rock Band already have the GH controller, and the Xbox live headset will work with singing, so I'd get drums.
I don't think the game will get old too quick, though. Especially since there's already a lot of downloadable songs.
baby sea tuna @ Nov 21st 2007 2:11PM
Anybody look at any of the other stuff in their store? Some of those decals and straps are pretty frikkin cool!
Shagittarius @ Nov 21st 2007 2:14PM
I know my girlfriend would prefer I spend the extra 50 bucks to get this than leave it out or throw it in the closet. Maybe if your single or just have roomates it doesn't matter...
baby sea tuna @ Nov 21st 2007 2:29PM
Or have a basement or something. That's where I plan on storing mine when not in use. Damn thing does take up some space though!
Martin @ Nov 21st 2007 2:20PM
Fifty bucks? Are you kidding me? It's a BAG, with VELCRO. Last I looked, neither one was very expensive!
Anyone who pays that price doesn't deserve a reach around, that's for sure.
Neon Jebus @ Nov 21st 2007 2:23PM
Hey be fair. Anyone willing to EVER put themselves in a compromising position ALWAYS deserves a reach around.
It's like a rule or something.
Neon Jebus @ Nov 21st 2007 2:20PM
Is anyone else having problems actually getting onto rockband.com website? If you click the link of the store page I keep getting error messages. It's been like that all day.
As for the gear bags, I'll think about buying some of it once they get me a working bass pedal. Mine was broke in the box.
Fish @ Nov 21st 2007 2:29PM
I don't see a registered trademark logo next to the name brand Velcro. In the furture Harmonix, please use the term "reusable fasteners". Thank you.
Farseer (GDI) @ Nov 21st 2007 3:56PM
Or "hook-and-loop fasteners". That is also a sufficient method of avoiding infringement.
mattydread @ Nov 21st 2007 3:20PM
Anyone know if you can just jam on the drums without keeping up with a song or something?
BIGGEN @ Nov 21st 2007 3:46PM
you mean like freestyle mode or something? i've always wished for a freestyle mode in GH (do they have it in GH3? haven't played it). having one in Rock Band might sell it for me.
ill trooper @ Nov 21st 2007 8:02PM
That would be fun for the drums. I tried all sorts of options and there doesn't seem to be any option for that. The closest thing is to go into 'practice' mode for the drums, where you can change the playback speed of the song to slower than normal - they don't have the rest of the instrumentation and you're basically playing drums to a click track - unfortunately, if you play any notes other than what the song is expecting, you get low rimshot noises and not the crash cymbal or the snare like you'd want. There are a few intros (weezer song) where you can just hit the drums and get their respective sounds but that ends after four measures, and then you get penalized for hitting the wrong sounds on the wrong times. Oh well.
It's still just about the closest thing to a drum sim on any of these consoles. It would be cool if they sell download packs to help you learn to drum better, or learn better pitch for singing, the two things on the game that actually happen, unlike the guitar playing, where I don't see how you could have a freestyle mode that pertained to anything other than timing. Not to say that isn't fun of course...
wiiluver135 @ Nov 22nd 2007 7:11AM
I wish I had Guitar hero III for the Wii...
*sighs*

AVOID ordering from the ROCK BAND STORE! Over a week and I have not gotten a response from their customer service on the status of my order. Three emails and still no response! My order has been "In Process" for almost a month... The worst customer service I have experienced in years!
