Browse others' friends lists with 360 fall update
The size and quality of your Xbox 360 friends list is sort of like the thickness and number of pockets in your Trapper Keeper were in middle school: It's an undeniable barometer of coolness among a very specific subset of people. After Dec. 4's fall update, you'll finally be able to judge your friends' binders e-popularity with the new "Friends of Friends" feature.
Unless they've disabled it right here, you'll be able to flip through others' friends lists to see how they stack up to yours, maybe even add a few prized names to your own. It's a cool feature, but it has us a bit worried about list capacity. With the new opportunities to make friends, could we have more than 100? Please?

ThornedVenom @ Nov 26th 2007 4:12PM
irl?
Intentless @ Nov 26th 2007 1:07PM
Oddly enough that is cool. It'll make it easier to say hey dude add this guy.. instead of having to write it down as long as you can remember the jist of their tag you can just pop on their list and get it... I think that is pretty cool...
Rob Accomando @ Nov 26th 2007 1:10PM
Kinda useless, imo
Ten Dolla Bill @ Nov 26th 2007 1:18PM
Kind of like you?
Marc Federico @ Nov 26th 2007 1:46PM
ya stfu plz. noob.
rv @ Nov 26th 2007 1:56PM
Yes it is. Hopefully this is not the hallmark feature of the update.
Mike @ Nov 26th 2007 1:22PM
DUMB. I'm blocking mine now.
Why don't they add something useful like a way for me to notate custom info on each friend. ie. what game I met them in, personal info I've gleaned from them by talking, etc.. A note pad page on each friend would do wonders in allowing me to keep track of them all. At this point.. if I don't interact with them in a few months I just delete them.
Imadogg @ Nov 28th 2007 8:06AM
I've always been thinking about that too, but at least now they're adding your own personal profile page, that should help
Gunner McGrath @ Nov 26th 2007 1:23PM
Good idea.. we regularly have issues with trying to convey someone's gamertag to someone else for invite purposes.
And I agree.. the 100 limit is absolutely ridiculous for those of us that join online communities.. I literally have to delete chunks of friends every time I get a new game just to make room for different people.. which makes going back to play the old ones with the same friends practically impossible.
Fernando Rocker @ Nov 26th 2007 1:22PM
I have all the ten Friends seasons =(
gonk @ Nov 26th 2007 1:28PM
condolences
Fernando Rocker @ Nov 26th 2007 1:31PM
Naa... it's funny. Chandler Bing is very funny (not like George Constanza, but still very funny).
My top 3 series are:
1. Seinfeld
2. Friends
3. Scrubs
Hirsbrunner @ Nov 26th 2007 1:43PM
"Friends" sitcom is dog crap turned white.
GRANTED @ Nov 26th 2007 1:46PM
baaa baaaa
Korova @ Nov 26th 2007 1:47PM
I used to watch friends a lot ... until I suddenly realized that the show sucks. It might be a result of having seen each episode 4-5 times.
Same with Will & Grace.
Sienfeld is aging well, though.
borland502 (SDF - Macross Ring) @ Nov 26th 2007 2:05PM
Few shows age well, and alas, Friends didn't. I mean you can only take so much of the will they/won't they mechanic before you just don't care anymore.
Now on the topic at hand...perhaps I don't understand it that well, but is this a glorified way of increasing your e-penis? Something akin to Facebook bragging rights?
Fernando Rocker @ Nov 26th 2007 2:18PM
And why Joey is hugging Monica...?
"Could I be anymore jealous?"
JL @ Nov 26th 2007 3:04PM
Jennifer Aniston FTW!
T2 @ Nov 26th 2007 1:28PM
It's just another social feature, not unlike Facebook or Twitter or what-have-you.
I don't see anything wrong with it, as long as you can control whether the feature is enabled or how it's enabled, which Microsoft has covered.
So if you wants people to see your friends list, they will, if you don't, they won't.
Just from a perspective of adding friends of friends, it does make it rather convenient.
I'm all for more social features. Bring em on Microsoft! I was rather bummed that Call of Duty didn't have an online site to check your challenges among friends. Now that would have been cool.
tcc3 @ Nov 26th 2007 1:30PM
Don't you mean the winter update? Or perhaps the Spring 2008 update?
=P
Hansi @ Nov 26th 2007 1:33PM
No, Fall ends December 21.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Nov 26th 2007 1:33PM
seriously.
And do we have divx support yet, or not?
Intentless @ Nov 26th 2007 1:34PM
Nope its still that fall update... just running really really late... Although with the weather around here in new england it still feels pretty fallish...
Fernando Rocker @ Nov 26th 2007 1:36PM
What I really want is a Internet browser... with that I'm happy.
Neon Jebus @ Nov 26th 2007 1:36PM
Wasn't there a similar option on the old Xbox? I seem to recall being able to see the friends of my friends. It might have been through xbox.com or perhaps bungie.net but I really thought there was a way to do that in the past.
I could just be crazy.
John Musco @ Nov 26th 2007 1:39PM
What I would really like is to be able to organize the list so I can put my real-life friends at the top of it instead of having to scan for them alphabetically.
It'd also be nice to be able to set individual alerts.
gonk @ Nov 26th 2007 1:48PM
i'd loooove kb/m support and FULL blade/menu customization. for things like rock band, you can already see the marketplace download list of it get a bit scroll-heavy and they've only just released it. imagine how long it'll take to find a song you want in 6 months
god, there are so many things the dashboard still needs, and it's real annoying that i can barely see my backgrounds because of ads or just unnecessarily large menus
Silent Xenocide @ Nov 26th 2007 1:49PM
Wow this is amazing.
RDX @ Nov 26th 2007 1:54PM
I miss trapper keepers. They were the shit.
Obie @ Nov 26th 2007 1:55PM
Cute, but I rather have 4 person private voice chat.
That is a feature I have wanted since the 360 launch.
ssuk @ Nov 26th 2007 2:01PM
Agreed, conference chat would rock... I don't see why this hasn't already been implemented, I've seen LOADS of people ask for this/complain about the lack of this.
Jungli @ Nov 26th 2007 7:13PM
This already enable. I do it all the times.
umm....hello??? @ Nov 26th 2007 1:56PM
could care less of friends of friends....make my friend's list larger, THEN I'd be interested. But since Halo3/TF2 came out my friend's list is full of 25+older "mature" gamers, Custom games gamers, and people I meet in matches that are playing to have a good time.
ssuk @ Nov 26th 2007 1:59PM
Next update features Xbox Live giving out your credit card details to selected fraudsters.
R0b3rt @ Nov 27th 2007 2:30AM
That would have be enjoyable. 1 i have no credit lol and 2 i would get enough junk mail to heat my house through the winter. fuck oil or electric i got junk mail lol.
TJ0331 @ Nov 26th 2007 2:08PM
Who honestly has 100 friends? I mean, maybe the people that just add any old schmuck because he said more than five words, but who has 100 friends that they play with on a regular basis, and remembers shit about them? I believe I have like 15 friends on there, half are near by friends, the other are old Marine Corps buddies. And why the hell would you want to look at friends of friends? So you can ask them about some random tagged person? Dumbest idea ever. How about bringing something useful, maybe instead of spending millions of development costs on worthless shit, save that money and make live free. Call me crazy.
Gangsta Smurf @ Nov 26th 2007 2:21PM
I can't wait for the customizable layouts, the Xbox Live Schools, Music, Groups, and Blogs feature.
When is the "Browse" going to drop? I need to find age 18-24 girls in my area.
Gangsta Smurf @ Nov 26th 2007 2:22PM
Oh shit, can't forget the Bulletin Boards!
Game Artist @ Nov 26th 2007 2:27PM
Who cares about this?
Let me have clan support and categorize my friends list first!
LAboy @ Nov 26th 2007 2:27PM
Nice feature, but I still want my Divx support dammit!!
Gangsta Smurf @ Nov 26th 2007 2:31PM
AMEN! This transcode crap isn't working for me. Nope, not at all.
Shagittarius @ Nov 26th 2007 2:28PM
Now your chance to play Six Degrees of Shagittarius on Live.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Nov 26th 2007 2:50PM
LOL. Thats actually a good one shag.
Eddie @ Nov 26th 2007 2:31PM
But what of my real life friends? What shall I tell them?
Join XBL, I suppose.
Jake @ Nov 26th 2007 2:48PM
Catergorizing friends would be nice. I have good friends and then a bunch of random adults I've played with that I will call upon if we are making a custom game. I'd like to be able to "check who is on" easily, then have another big chunk of schmuks that I sometimes invite or join a game with.
My biggest request would be for all online multiplayer games to use Halo 3 matchmaking and run as lag free as Halo 3 does. H3 isn't even that great of a game, yet has ruined superior games that don't run so smooth for me.
Fandel @ Nov 26th 2007 3:56PM
So, does this mean I'm going to start getting random spam messages from Gamertags like: "See_my_horny_pics", I'm_a_Slut", or "Nigerian_King_69"?
Because that's what's going to happen if Microsoft truly does want Xbox Live to become a social network clone.
ThornedVenom @ Nov 26th 2007 4:15PM
Longer friend lists = the new gamerpoints = the new e-penis on XboxLive.
Jungli @ Nov 26th 2007 7:13PM
When will we be able to upgrade xbox without loosing downloaded content? I want watch movie and play arcade game I buy without being online.
B1gC72 @ Nov 26th 2007 7:29PM
its all coming to the light now.....Microsoft is out to kill Myspace!
