If you've grown tired of your
Guitar Hero rocking partner staring at you longingly while you wirelessly strum your way through
Knights of Cydonia,
you'll be happy to hear that at least one of your band's schisms will be repaired soon. Activision announced today that they'd be rolling out the
wireless Gibsons sans
Guitar Hero III for all platforms early next year.
Though we love the black model, we hope that we'll also see the guitar in different colors, if only to give our digital bands something new to argue about. See, much like a young Fleetwood Mac, the conflict
feeds the music.

Overall, it's the nicest guitar I've ever used for a Guitar Hero game. Feels better than all the PS2 versions and the 360 X-plorer. The only thing I liked about the X-plorer was the ledge I could rest my right arm on due to it's odd shape.
steve @ Nov 26th 2007 12:21PM
wooo finally....
i hope they dont charge to much for the wii one since its just a shell without any wireless.
but theyll probably charge as much for the wii as the ps3 one
Daniel @ Nov 26th 2007 12:24PM
Agreed, Steve. It's a joke that the Wii version is as costly as it is, as Wii owners have already own $40 of the components needed for the guitar.

Nelson points at you and says HA HA...
Steven @ Nov 26th 2007 12:25PM
Activision dropped the ball on this. Let's make the Wii people have to play solo or online until February. (That's what GameStop told me, at least.)
Pathetic.
FidliousWong @ Nov 26th 2007 2:08PM
Hate to be the one to point this out but this is what I did on PS3 anyway. I bought two copies of the game but I kept both controllers. Gamestop is currently giving $18 trade on the PS3 version of the game. I used some promotions to get that value up to around $30. So in essence, I bought my second guitar for $70. You might call your local Gamestop and see what they take in trade for GHIII on Wii.
Dorian @ Nov 26th 2007 4:40PM
i have thought of that but the price on the Wii is reduces b/c it's just a shell to a controller you already own. I would think it would be a lot cheap or easier to make more.
gonk @ Nov 26th 2007 12:34PM
i wish they'd make a version that didn't break in 2 pieces, it'd alleviate a lot of people's problems with bad fret buttons
also, knights of cycdonia is fucking insane just on medium. i sight-read it PERFECT on easy, and have been doing okay with songs on medium (it's what I used to play on in gh2) but about 2/3 thru the song it becomes impossible
AirIntake @ Nov 26th 2007 12:42PM
HAHAHAHA, medium
gonk @ Nov 26th 2007 12:48PM
???
x876543 @ Nov 26th 2007 1:15PM
I have no problem with the fret buttons on the new guitar. And just do the "Practice" mode on Knights for the two parts which are kinda hard on medium. It's really simple patterns once you have the rhythm down for the fret keys.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Nov 26th 2007 1:40PM
As much as I don't want to sound like an ass, I have to LOL at medium also, unless this is your first time playing ANY GH game.
First time is different. Personally, I started GH3 on hard, because I heard that hard was like expert in GH2.
And they were mostly right. I only just got through "One" last night. Got the "almost had it" achievement at least twice on that one (I know you only GET it once, but you know what I mean).
Now just gotta win the Devil went down to georgia battle, and then have my hands fall off on Through the Fire and Flames.

Just in time for Christm... oh wait.
Doug Kaplan @ Nov 26th 2007 1:11PM
Hey maybe these guitars will work. Mine doesn't and it's 100% because of the idiotic decision to make the guitar two pieces instead of one. Some idiot at Activision/Red Octane/Neversoft should be fired for this decision.
gonk @ Nov 26th 2007 1:18PM
/agree
my guitar works 99% of the time, but the ps2 guitars worked 100% of the time, so we know it's possible and anything less is ridiculous
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Nov 26th 2007 1:42PM
just put a drop of solder on the contacts, that will ensure a good connection.
I haven't had any problems with mine.
Nate @ Nov 26th 2007 1:50PM
Why on earth didn't Rock Band and GH3 have standalone guitars available at launch? It's bizarre, in my opinion. Here are thousands of gamers, with money in their hands, ready to give it to the game companies... and they can't. People are paying $115-$125 on ebay for the PS3 Rock Band guitar alone. That's more than the guitar AND game cost for GH3. Red Octane could be getting in on some of this action, but instead, they decided to wait a couple months to release standalone guitars. It's not like they had to polish the code or anything, they're the same damn guitars that are in the bundle. Why not just offer them separately?
llOriginll @ Nov 26th 2007 1:58PM
Unrelated question, but say I got the PC version (Which is coming out some time soon-ish, aye?) of which the guitar is USB connection, would it work with the Wii via USB? No?
DMG @ Nov 27th 2007 1:16PM
I would suggest FoF and the wired 360 guitar if you plan to get it for PC IMO
Vexorg @ Nov 27th 2007 3:20AM
The PC version of GH3 comes with the X-plorer guitar, which is the same controller that came with GH2 for 360.
Jeff @ Nov 26th 2007 2:56PM
Someone needs to find a way to get this working with PC. PC, above any other system, really needs wireless. Some of us only have USB ports on the back of our tower, which is kept at a great distance from where we sit. Plus, I've always hated the xplorer, and absolutely love this guitar.
Catdogburger @ Nov 26th 2007 3:22PM
Hey Jeff, why are you not playing UT 3? :P
Anyway, The PS3 guitar works (almost) perfectly with the PC version.
All you need to do is some tweaking around with the KEys and download this little program
http://www.electracode.com/4/joy2key/JoyToKey%20English%20Version.htm
Its JoyToKey, it takes joystick keys and makes them keyboard keys. I got all the keys on my PS3 guitar to owrk for the PS3 version, The only thing that doesn't work is the tilt feature for using star power, I had to use the select button for it to work.
Have fun and happy gaming... I know I am
Saq @ Nov 26th 2007 3:22PM
It already does work with the pc, you just need the 19.99 wireless gaming reciever for windows. :P I have been using the wireless guitar on my pc for a few weeks now.
chris.hoekstra @ Nov 26th 2007 3:52PM
Using the GH3 wireless Gibson 360 version and the Microsoft Wireless Gaming Receiver (GoGamer has it for $15) I was able to use it flawlessly on the PC without a single change in configuration (other than lefty flip).
If someone is looking for a wireless solution for the PC then the 360 + wireless gaming receiver is a sweet solution. I use it for my HTPC and can't tell a difference in play from my 360 version even at hard and expert levels.
omar @ Nov 26th 2007 4:59PM
is the wireless gibson out for xbox 360?
Quaddw @ Nov 26th 2007 5:24PM
Think they hsould focus more on getting more supply out to stores :P
cushaksbro @ Jan 17th 2008 5:04PM
im getting this game and i would like two different guitars so im going to keep the x-plorer and get this guitar if some one tells me what type of tweaking do i do with the keys?
