Unreal Tournament PS3 shipping in 'limited quantities' Dec. 10

Despite initial doubts, Midway has confirmed that the PlayStation 3 version of first-person twitchfest, Unreal Tournament III, will begin shipping to North American stores on December 10th, with "limited quantities" leaping onto shelves the following day. Initial supply has no doubt been hampered due to Epic's last-minute (some say miraculous) completion of the game, not to mention the fact that Bob the disc burner wanted to go on vacation like yesterday.

In case you missed it during the Thanksgiving avalanche, Unreal Tournament III is already available for the "personal computer."

Has it hit 3 million in the US? Gears sold buckets with a high attach rate console and at least twice as many sold consoles.

good, but on the notion that not much has changed and the AI seems a little dumbed down since UT2004. check it on metacritic.com

So far, I've had to fix the game in the .ini files at least 8 times and I still have this weird post processing effect I can't get rid of and very shallow texture swapping. I've decided at this point, my PC version is only for testing the mods, PS3 will be where I'll be playing the bulk of the game.

Agreed, its sooo much easier to get a game of something On XBL going, not only are there less PS3s out there the proportion playing online is also much less that the 360 enjoys. I'll wait for the 360 version and keep my Ps3 for single player experiences like Uncharted and Ratachet.

Chances are its going to be raped by Halo 3. No one on the 360 will notice, I believe. Not that Halo 3 is a good game (its fun, but not great), its just an all consuming cloud.

I love it on PC, but mostly for the level editor - I'll probably buy it on 360 too - I just hope they're able to work out getting user created mods and content through the MS Certification process!

Great game - very fun. Gears quality graphics only bright, fast and awesome vehicles. As far as whats different than previous versions? One word: HOVERBOARDS

They are still working on the 360 mods setup.

Lag isn't necessarily better on PS3. Halo 3 has the least lag in a good popular console shooter hands down. COD4 does not run smoother on PS3, for example.

mouse and keyboard support is not confirmed.

Typically the 360 version of a multiconsole game is preferred by multiple console owners because the game usually runs better and the online features are obviously superior. Achievements too.

The 360 is just hands down better than the PS3 for online shooters. Just use the PS3 for bluray movies until MGS4 and FFXIII are out, unless you aren't lucky or smart enough to own more than just a PS3. ;)

Halo 3 least lag of any online game? Pull the other one.

Lag isn't something you program in or can program out. Lag has to do with network connections, especially that of the person who is hosting the game. And so any game with dedicated hosts will have better response. Halo 3 doesn't have dedicated hosts, but several PS3 games do.

Why would you release any disc on a limited basis? Blu-Ray is a little more expensive to produce, but not much more so. If they are going to release it, they should just release it. Maybe it's going to come with a giant cat helmet.

I'm pretty sure it means there will be limited quantities on December 10th, followed shortly there after by full availability. This is obviously due to shipping reasons.

Not sure where the 'miraculous' comment comes from considering Mark Rein stated that he expected them to complete the game before Christmas on the very day Midway announced it might end up getting delayed until next year. He also explained that Midway's comment about it getting delayed until next year was due to having to 'expect worst case scenario' in order to satisfy accounting regulations, not because they necessarily believed the game to get delayed to next year as the most likely outcome.

It'll be a miracle if this game doesn't contain tons of bugs. I'm really skeptical that the PS3 version wasn't rushed out and isn't going to have a lot of problems.

for those of you waiting on the 360 version... its really not a for sure thing because epic is backing the ps3 now and the engine has been optimized for the ps3... 360 is not the priority for them... anyhow based on quality of games lately released multi platform after seeing games like COD4 and assasins run faster and smooth on the ps3 (considering the amount of glitches assasins has on both systems)my 360 hasnt been getting attention... and 360 has no more decent exclusives to come for the exception of ninja gaiden2 everything else is almost always a damn shooter... 360 is already slumping and microsoft will probly be releasing another system soon so why bother... i feel like i threw away money buying the 360 but thats just my opnion and i know alot of people beg to differ but by honestly owning both systems at the rate and succes the ps3 is having lately u gotta wonder about the 360 version

Dude, that has got to be one of the dumbess posts I have read in a very long time. Why in the hell would epic back the ps3 only with a game that would obviously sell a hell of alot more on the xbox360 especially with their pre-existing relationship with MS and gears of war. And yes it is optimized for the ps3 because it needed to be optimized with all the problems they have had, they don't have that many problems out of the 360 in comparison.

Now if you look at it from a financial view, it would make sense for epic to wait to release it on the 360 because quite frankly not many people would be playing unreal when compared to halo3 and COD4. There may not be that many solid titles coming in the spring and that would be a good time for it to shine for the 360 just like there aren't any good shooters coming out for the ps3 now so it a good time to get it out as soon as possible on the ps3.

And as far as the rest of your post, I am not even going to waste my time on it.

PS. Just so you know I am not a fanboy by any means, I am just stating the obvious and yes I do have UT pre-ordered at ebgames for the ps3.

Real 360 owners know what kind of library of games they have and will have access to (retail and XBLA). If you really have a 360 and haven't touched it, you're a damn fool.

I'm loving the pc version so far, but I too had to alter an engine config file to get things working correctly, and install after copying to hdd since it didn't work from the dvd...but after that it's pretty damn awesome, I can play it on high settings and I don't even have a super great pc. Any suggestions on a keyboard for the ps3 version?

you guys are funny with the ps3 fanboy thing or you sound to be commenting on a ps3 game without knowledge of a ps3 oh by the the way my gamertag is GAT305 and theres nothing that the xbla has as far as games that the ps3 doesnt(live setup is well organized but home will be better) but the difference is paying to play online and what you pay for xbla games oh wait i wanted a theme on my 360 shit i gotta pay for that too and then when i do turn the 360 on it sounds like its gonna blow up since day one played gears kinda boring, played bioshock halfway through got bored, halo 3 2 weeks online and im done... oh wait not to mention how the system scratches the crap out of your games... i have both systems i have an option of what to play as a gamer and bought the 360 to see what it was all about as well as to game when one system goes dry but 360 doesnt do it for me sorry its a waste of money for me... and for you that dont believe that epic is in more support of the ps3 you should read the posts from thier sites and blogs dont get mad at me that epic said that... its not my fault... oh by the way my psn id is gat305 also but i doubt anyone here has one of those... oh for you oversensitive people that got mad over an opinion lookout for the huge nut microsoft leaves on your face after you are done sucking them off... my definition of a fanboy is someone who owns one system... i own all 3 the wii, ps3, and 360...
