Halo 3 'Journey's End' doc sneaks onto Xbox Live Marketplace

Though we can't recall Major Nelson mentioning it, a new Halo 3 video documentary (or ViDOC, as the cool kids say) is now on Xbox Live Marketplace. Available only in HD and weighing in at 753 MB, "Journey's End" discusses the events in the first two Halo games as told through in-game footage and interviews with Bungie staffers.

Ardent fans of the Halo universe will probably not glean any new information, but they do get a chance to stare into Managing Editor Frank O'Connors gorgeous eyes - in HD no less! We've also embedded the video above (via Gametrailers) for those unable to get to an Xbox 360.

I had forgotten just how much better H3 looked than the previous two installments.

However I think Cortana looked best in H2, not sure if it was the styling or what...

Ditto on Cortana... while ultimately H3's end to me does feel right it came way too quickly but then again even missions in Halo have been better (in my opinion) when played with others so maybe that was what happened to my experience.

You know I like that game a lot, even when I know the orange box is going to win Goty Halo 3 shouldn't be left behind. Every game should nominate Halo 3 for Goty even if it doesn't wins.

Kudos to Bungie, Halo 3 is badass.

Since Orange Box is the 2nd game from this year to be on the Top 10 rankings, I'd like to say it. But then Galaxy has proved very popular too.

I wouldn't want Halo to win as 3 was as poor as 2, neither reaching the originality and overall quality of the first Halo.

I truly love the Halo story arc. I wish the other ports had come quickly and with the same quality as Halo 1 PC. But I guess I'll start dual booting Vista eventually and get Halo 2.

Awesome documentary: only played Halo in multiplayer, but thanks to the vid, I now know the storyline and I understand Halo fans a lot better. =)

I went out there, bought Halo 3 and expected great things after all the near perfect ratings. Unfortunately, the single player is just too short and the story so bland that I was just angry when the game ended. I still can't get past the fact that the ending sequence in Halo 3 was exactly the same as in Halo 1. How many millions of dollars were put into this game?

I have to agree that the story in Halo 3 was bland. More than that though, I think it was rushed. There are so many things happening near the end that fell so incomprehensibly out of place that I think it does more to spit in the players eye than to successfully wrap up the series. If anyone did like the story and the ending, that's all well and good, but there are things that were either pushed aside from previous games, or elements, as I said, near the end that are absurdly out of place. It, personally, ruined the entire arc for me. By the way, Johnsen luv Keyes? What? WHAT?!

Actually, I liked the ending... it just felt right. When I watched it and realized that it was the same, it took me back to the night that I got home from Target 2 days after my birthday, put in Halo and couldn't stop playing for hours... It was great.

And honestly, if it was entirely up to Bungie, I don't think Halo 3 would even be out now. It would have probably been released around early August 2008 and have 2 discs of actual gameplay. Unfortunately, Microsoft needed Halo 3 to move consoles for the Holiday, so I'm sure many things had to be sacrificed.

Halo is Bungie's baby, and if it was their choice entirely, they wouldn't have it out the doors until they were completely happy with it.

I love Halo, but I think Halo 3 tried to appeal to as many people as possible, rather than its core fans. So, something one group of people might like may have been added at the expensive of something the core Halo fanatics love.

It's all confusing, I'm sure, but whatever. I'm not disappointed with Halo 3, but I would have liked to see it go out with a real bang. Something like 2 days before it was released, there's an announcement about the fact that it is a 2 disc game or something...

I grabbed this last night and watched it. It's pretty good. Some of it sounded familiar, and it was. After watching it, I felt like watching the Limited Edition Disc and realized they used some of the parts from those interviews. I didn't realize it until he said "Cortana is every girlfriend we've ever had... No, I'm just kidding. She's your little, blue guardian angel."

I dunno, just my two cents. I really like these ViDocs, even if I know it all already... It made me want to stay up all night and play through Halo 1, 2, and 3 in one night... too bad I had school the next morning.

They do a really good job on these. Kudos to Bungie.
