Turok developer may consider removing team kill achievement
After reviewing concerns about its Xbox achievement choices, Propaganda games says it'll consider removing the "team kill" award after the Turok launch early next year. Although CVG reports in its headline "Turok dev to scrap team kill achievement," the quote from Propaganda VP Josh Holmes is actually, "We are currently looking at readying a patch or solution for it if it does become an issue when the game releases" (um, looks like somebody forgot to read the story before writing the headline). That's not a definitive statement that Propaganda will nix the controversial achievement, but merely acknowledgment that the developer will consider doing so after the game releases.
Actually, a few statements made by Holmes in the interview are a little frightening. For example, he says that the team kill achievement -- which gives ten points for killing one creature, enemy, teammate and yourself in a single round -- was originally created as a joke because they found that players in their first Turok match met all the criteria. That's not exactly a confidence builder.

Would you mind removing the ABILITY to team kill? Now instead of doing it for an achievement, people will do it to be dicks. Big improvement

I'm waiting for someone to put out an All Team Killing & Griefing online game. It will be the most popular game of all time.
...cept stupid kids will ruin it by actually trying to complete the goals :(
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Dec 12th 2007 2:35PM
Instead of tossing, why not find a way to make it so you lose gamerscore? Not every time you TK (sometimes it's an accident, like line of fire. Happens on RTCW:ET a lot) but if you do it a couple times, or a couple times in a row, you lose gamerscore.
A Negative Achievement.
Korova @ Dec 12th 2007 3:26PM
I agree. There should be negative achievements, but they should be fun, like Fable.

Indeed.

You should only get the achievement if you accomplish all of that in one shot.
Jeff @ Dec 12th 2007 2:50PM
Seconded.
Tom @ Dec 12th 2007 3:00PM
"You should only get the achievement if you accomplish all of that in one shot."
How is that better though? So if you kill your teammate and die before killing a creature or an enemy, then you try again.... and again... and again... so people will be team-killing over and over until they manage to do all four objectives... so it's actually WORSE!
Marty @ Dec 12th 2007 3:10PM
It's not better, because that wasn't a serious request.
Tom @ Dec 12th 2007 3:34PM
"It's not better, because that wasn't a serious request."
You fail at sarcasm (hint: use "/sarcasm") but at least we're on the same page: this achievement is retarded.
J-L @ Dec 12th 2007 9:39PM
I'm sorry, but Marty's sarcasm was obvious. How the hell can you kill a creature, an enemy, and YOURSELF with one shot? Unless you can shoot yourself in the foot, I don't see that happening.
Tom @ Dec 13th 2007 2:29AM
Ohhhhh I see, one shot meaning one bullet, I thought you meant one shot as in one attempt (ie. "I'll give it a shot") Simple misunderstanding *nervous laughter* ok fellas, put the guns down, ok? Fellas?

Oh come on, it's not that bad. I play on XBL fairly regularly, and though I detest these types of encounters, it happens very rarely. Even in Halo, if we completely stomp the other team, I rarely hear anyone yell out this kind of stuff before the next round.
DemonGSides @ Dec 12th 2007 4:16PM
Me and my friends have decided that everytime we get called anything on Xbox Live pre- or post-match, we just yell "your clan sucks!"
Even if the people all came together randomly. Gets a few good laughs.
Mr.ESC @ Dec 12th 2007 4:17PM
Thats because almost no one uses the headset anymore, huge improvement in multiplayer.Seriously every time I use the headset in Halo 3 or Gears of war I hear the word f@g every 10 seconds.
To be honest some players in Team fortress 2 are pretty coperative, same in streets of rage.I have met good people in Gears of war and Halo 3 too but the aholes ruin all the fun.

Idiocy, ftw.
jopojelly @ Dec 12th 2007 6:32PM
Funny thing is, I was testing google toolbar spellcheck when writing this post. I actually wrote "reaaly" and it fixed it. Maybe in the future google will be able to anticipate the meaning of my writing and fix it.

what a useless achievement. it only encourages such behavior. it should be a -500 point achievement just so people will not try to get it.
billychaos @ Dec 12th 2007 4:34PM
That is the best idea I heard yet about xbox live!!! They should penalize people and start deducting gamerscore!
punkasscrab @ Dec 12th 2007 5:52PM
It's kind of cool when you earn different "costumes" or characters by being a good player. It distuinguishes the good online. What would be cool is a mandatory dunce hat for the dipshits that get voted down enought time in online games. Imagine master chief with a dunce hat because somebody annoyed to many people online.
