We've heard nothing but positive buzz about Burnout, but we're a little unsure what to expect from Frontlines. So far, commenters on Major Nelson's blog have been less than kind, calling the demo "really bad", "bad, very bad" and "a bit rubbish." But hey, that's why demos are free, so you can try them guilt-free. Don't let the internet decide for you! ... Unless, of course, you're a silver member.

Frontlines SUX, downloaded it last night and its as generic as they come. Graphics, sound, weapons are all MEH. Completed it and deleted it. Will not buy and will not rent. Save your time (cuz its over a gig to download) and HDD space my good Joystiq friends.

Maybe there will be another promo and we can have "gamefuel of war" for when you want to crank it up and get chugged (no, you chug it to get charged. you never crank it) (but I DO get cranked) (that's a byproduct of the charging)

Well said, car sims DO need to DIE! Not a slow death but rather a quick one please! They are so boring, Forza and Gran Turd-ismo Im lookin at cha!! PGR, Burnout, NFS, and RRacer are way more fun to play.

I enjoy Burnout but I'm also a huge Forza fan. There is no reason for them to die off when there is still a large market for them.

The Burnout demo is pretty good and really shows the potentials.
The only downsides are:
- The annoying "Crash FM" DJ is back. *sigh* Hopefully there is a way to turn him off in the retail game.
- No music in the demo. I'm hoping this is just because it's the demo. (I've been introduced to a bunch of great tunes from the other Burnout games and would hate for them to break that now. Of course, I could just whip up my own MS media playlist...)
- No more Traffic Checking. If you hit any car solidly enough, you'll crash.
- Only three events in the demo. (However, you can just cruise around and do stunts which is fun by itself.)
Also, this isn't really a downside, but the cars feel "heavier" now which makes takedowns more challenging. Once I got used to it, I was able to thrash my opponents pretty solidly.
Overall, I'm liking what I see. I just wish there was more to do in the demo. I can't wait for the full version!

That's a big 'ol plus imo. I didn't think that added anything to the series (it just felt a little "ooooh we're so extreme look at all the destruction") and I'm glad they got rid of it.
I'm definately picking this up.

Agreed, Traffic checking removed a TON of the tension as you're driving along at incredibly fast speeds. Before, driving with traffic gave you a slight bit larger time to react. In Revenge, it made you essentially invincible to traffic. If it's gone, I'm back.

I liked being able to bounce a car into an opponent, but you're right - it was cartoonish and the AI would never do the same to you. I won't end up missing it (none of the PSP iterations have it and those are still fun), but I know I'm going to keep ramming into the backs of cars out of habit for at least the first few hours...

I misplaced this below. But get into single player (not Freeburning online), start a race (the stoplight in the southeast) and then there will be music during the race.

Downloading Burnout right now...so excited about it!
And I agree to an extent about racing sims. They're boring as hell but I can see why some like them. NFS: ProStreet had enough "sim" in it to make it a good game IMO. However games like Gran Turismo are completely worthless to me.

Gran Turismo might be worthless to you, but not to the millions of people that have followed the franchise and bought most if not all of the games...(FYI, I don't like car sims, KARTS FTW!)

Oh, also - if you look at the "options", it seems that playing the Burnout demo opts you in to marketing from EA. You can change that from the options screen (hit Right on the D-pad to access the menu).

Am I the only one that hates how M$ has sorted the Demos section in the new dasboard? In the last version you could access them straight from the games blade.
Now I need to select games blade > games library > My games > XMB loading...then select demos...then the demo I want.

No, you're not the only one. I didn't update until today and I find the new UI for finding downloads to suck a bit. The same UI is used for playing them and it sucks a hell of a lot there.

Actually the main "games" blade has space for both demos and xbla games, but M$ decided to put ads their instead.

Burnout plays like a dream. Sharp precise control, and georgous graphics. Seriously a beautiful gfame. No traffic checking means back to basics like in Burnout 3, so get used to it or get out as it were. Can't wait for the final. I'm so getting this.

Burnout was OK.. Good graphics, nice speed, but the handling of the cars(weight, steering, etc) feels totally lame.. Drifting and takedowns just aren't that fun.. The whole flow of the game feels broken and less like the Burnout I love.. The crash sequences are looong and without the aftertouch it's just you sitting there watching a cut-scene.. DJ is annoying as hell, traffic checking is gone, which isn't that bad but the fact that you can't tell what you can bounce off of or what will cause you to completely disintegrate by just tapping it, makes it frustrating..
Just doesn't have the flow older Burnouts have.. Feels more like Test Drive Unlimited than Burnout.
Thanks for the demo and saving me $60..

Here's some more good things to hear about Burnout: the demo rocks. I love the thing and the full version will bare my children in January.
Frontlines was decent, other than an annoying fact that you have to press a poorly placed button to run.
