First details on next Tomb Raider emerge in Play
Play Magazine has gotten the scoop on the next Tomb Raider game (which may or may not be subtitled Underworld) and what few details there are sound tantalizing to say the least. The game (developed by Crystal Dynamics) takes place a few years after the excellent Legend and finds Lara in "a lush, vast interactive world that reacts and remembers".
Along those lines, the piece gives an example of Lara leaving footprints in mud, though they're eventually washed away by rain. ... OK, so it's not much (though you can check out the magazine for more details). We're just kind of marveling at the feeling of being excited for a Tomb Raider game again.

Interesting choice of cover art. And by interesting, I mean "what else would you expect?"
gonk @ Dec 14th 2007 11:09AM
it's too bad the game's graphics won't look that good :(
Penguin Warlord @ Dec 14th 2007 9:53PM
HOLY CLEAVAGE BATMAN!
Jonah Falcon @ Dec 14th 2007 11:03AM
Nice camera angle, pointed straight down into Lara's blouse. It's always about the tits with this game.
danny. @ Dec 14th 2007 11:59AM
She's also twisted in an awkward way to allow for the rear end to make it into the shot... Don't lose site of the important stuff...
Anni @ Dec 14th 2007 12:22PM
"Blouse"? "Rear end"? What are you guys, my mother?
Jonah Falcon @ Dec 14th 2007 12:29PM
No, just adults who use proper nomenclature.
Anni @ Dec 14th 2007 12:32PM
Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize. My face is so red, you'd think I was wearing "rouge".
danny. @ Dec 14th 2007 12:35PM
My apologies Anni, Look at the turd-cutter on that slut... Yeah, now I feel gross.
bm @ Dec 14th 2007 12:36PM
You can't argue against Jonah, he is Big People, don't you know.
Anni @ Dec 14th 2007 12:43PM
I learnt a lesson about not talking when grown-ups are talking that I won't soons forget!
Jonah Falcon @ Dec 14th 2007 12:46PM
"I've learns the lesson about not ogling cans that I won't soons forget."
mr nimblewick (SegaDF - Jogurt Ring) @ Dec 14th 2007 11:04AM
Man, how did we ever play games without footprints that get washed away by rain? That is trully next-gen.
robert @ Dec 14th 2007 1:26PM
snake was leaving footprints in the snow, though they were eventually covered by more snow in metal gear solid back in 1998...
so yeah, welcome to the future.
Slaziman (B-B-BRUSHED WITH FAAAAME) @ Dec 14th 2007 11:05AM
Nice cleavage.
Play Magazine sucks by the way, they hand out perfect scores like a piñata hands out candy.
Admiral_Mike @ Dec 14th 2007 11:06AM
So....we have to beat them with a stick to get the scores?
FidliousWong @ Dec 14th 2007 11:24AM
And yet they are the only gaming magazine with decent art, publishes post mortems, focuses on gaming culture, and actually speaks like a gamer instead of the 40 year old creepy guy in Dave & Busters trying desperately to fit in with your kids....
I can forgive their high scores considering.
StrangeBum @ Dec 14th 2007 1:18PM
I agree with you Fidlious. While sure, their ratings system may not be the best out there. The media in the game itself is some of the best. With great articles, and the best art filling nearly every page. I like Play magazine for those features.
Also, Lara is still my video game babe of choice. Right under are Kasumi and EVA. I loved EVA!
bm @ Dec 14th 2007 11:06AM
"Along those lines, the piece gives an example of Lara leaving footprints in mud, though they're eventually washed away by rain."
lulz. SNES games did that kind of stuff.
Talk about empty hype.
bm @ Dec 14th 2007 11:07AM
That said, I am, and always will be, a TR fanboy. So, yay. Hope they can live up to TR1's standards this time.
Martin @ Dec 14th 2007 11:17AM
You mean overhyped with shitty controls? Let's hope they stray from the path ...
bm @ Dec 14th 2007 12:28PM
Don't wish to stray from the topic of how hyping a game with "real footprints zomg" in 2007 is completely retarded, but:
You mean how the TR controls turned shitty with Legends? I agree. ;)
cxm @ Dec 14th 2007 2:21PM
I could never understand how the TR fanboys could justify calling the controls that had the user control Lara like she's a tank better than the new scheme that has her move like an actual person instead of heavy machinery. Am I missing something, there?
Nightvortez @ Dec 14th 2007 7:36PM
I liked the original controls as well, while they were a lot like a tank they also kind of felt free, like an open world in which you can do anything and the controls remain the same, I mean, in the new ones she can't jump real far or high up unless she is suppose to in that part, she runs around like is tethered to something and it takes almost no skill to perform actions since they are already pre-determined by the game. They are surely more realistic but I think they take away from the original feeling which the games created.
daedalus @ Dec 14th 2007 11:06AM
Shouldnt she be like... almost 40 by now?
Jonah Falcon @ Dec 14th 2007 11:15AM
There are plenty of steaming hot 40 year old women. Of course, a pre-teen like you probably thinks 40 = lace doilies and rocking chairs.
daedalus @ Dec 14th 2007 11:19AM
Or 21 year olds like me with a sense of continuity think that maybe its time for momma Croft to settle down with Indiana and raise a litter of junior adventurers cause that biological clock is ticking
Fernando Rocker @ Dec 14th 2007 11:22AM
daedalus
How can you with Jonah? He is a published writer!
Fernando Rocker @ Dec 14th 2007 11:23AM
*argue
riggs @ Dec 14th 2007 11:49AM
shouldnt bart and lisa be 30 year olds by now?
brad77 @ Dec 14th 2007 12:16PM
LOL. Lara's a cougar!
deaftly @ Dec 14th 2007 12:24PM
Lara is officially a cougar now.
Jonah Falcon @ Dec 14th 2007 12:30PM
Because, as we all know, women are only good for having babies.
daedalus @ Dec 14th 2007 12:33PM
@Jonah
and making dinner... hell, any meal!
Of course they're also good for whining, shopping, and slapping!
bm @ Dec 14th 2007 12:35PM
"How can you argue with Jonah? He is a published writer!"
Wait, it's -that- guy? Haha!
Jonah Falcon @ Dec 14th 2007 12:44PM
Yep. Me and Marlo Thomas.
bm @ Dec 14th 2007 1:55PM
I don't know who you're talking about, nor do I care. I just remember you going "I am a big important person, therefore your argument is invalid!" on here some time ago.
It was funny.
Mr.ESC @ Dec 14th 2007 3:05PM
Wait didn't Lara died in Angel of Darkness or something?, how the hell sequels keep spawning?
Seriously I don't know I haven't played Tomb raider in years.
Also I thought Dora was Lara's Daughter.
Obie @ Dec 14th 2007 11:14AM
I will only consider the game next-gen if she is able to kill bad guys with her boobs. Otherwise, pass!
wontyme @ Dec 14th 2007 11:22AM
Uncharted: Lara's Bra
gonk @ Dec 14th 2007 11:24AM
many an intrepid explorer have been lost forever searching for the pass between those peaks...
Phranctoast @ Dec 14th 2007 11:30AM
dont forget the foothills of nipple braille!
Vidikron (FU) @ Dec 14th 2007 12:09PM
That's hardly uncharted territory.
xFenixKnightx @ Dec 14th 2007 11:24AM
Next-gen debut?? I couldve sworn......
Zootittles @ Dec 14th 2007 11:27AM
"Will there be titty?"
baby sea tuna @ Dec 14th 2007 11:33AM
Hicks=God.
+1 to you, good sir.
Boss Tempo @ Dec 14th 2007 11:27AM
I'm still working through TR Anniversary - talk about gorgeous. There's a cool, nostalgic feeling you get while revisiting all the old locations from the original, only with all new graphics and levels.
Can't wait for this one.
Phranctoast @ Dec 14th 2007 11:28AM
I want the new TR game to be closer to Anniversary than Legend. The driving seemed tacked on in Legend.
They should also not make it like uncharted, with gears style firefights. That type of game has its place. I always liked that the TR games were 85% platforming and 15% fighting. They should stick to that formular. As much as people need to try to compare the two, Uncharted is 15% platforming and 85% fighting. Quite different if you ask me.....
When they change the forumlar too much they essentially ruin the game. Angel of Darkness..anyone.
Vidikron (FU) @ Dec 14th 2007 2:20PM
I agree. I really enjoyed Uncharted quite a bit, but it really put me in the mood for some TR style puzzles. I wish Uncharted had included a bit more of that. TR should definitely keep its focus more on the puzzles.
BLinn @ Dec 14th 2007 11:28AM
I would only consider it next gen if there is a sex scene with liquid running down her tighs. Oh i'm such a pervert.
